CANDY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION :forming part of Letters Patent No. 781,527, dated January 31, 1905.
Application filed September 20, 1904. Serial No. 225,229.
To rif/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J EFFERs, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a-resident of Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Candy-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a receptacle for holding candy or other similar Acate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device in open position, and Fig. 2 is a central section of the device and through the openings in its side.
An outer tube 1, closed at one end and having an inwardly-extending. flange 2y at the other end, contains an inner tube 3, closed at both ends, but having an opening 4 in the side thereof. This opening 4 is in vertical alinement with a similar opening 5, Jformed in the side of the outer tube 1. y
At the bottom of the outer tube l is a coilspring 6, which normally forces the inner tube 3 upward against the 'flange 2, thus holding the openings 4 and 5 out of alinement and securely `closing the receptacle. When it is desired to open this receptacle, a nger is pressed upon th'e top of the inner receptacle by passing it through the opening 7 in the top of the outer tube 1, and the inner tube is forced against the action of the spring toward the bottom of the outer tube. The openings 4 and 5 are so positioned that when the inner i tube has been pressed down as far as possible said openings will be in perfect alinement and the contents of the inner receptacle can readily be removed. y
From this description it will be seen that it is not necessary to have light for opening this receptacle; but it can be-done as readily ,in the darkness as in the light.
This is the preferred form of my'construction; but I do not Wish to be limited to the precise'details as described, but only as stated in the claims. n
l Having thus described my invention,I claim as new'and desire to secure by Letters Patent-` 1. In a candy-holder, the combination of an outer receptacle having an opening in one end and an opening in its side, an inner closed receptacle Within the outer receptacle and having an opening in its side adapted to register with the side opening of the outer receptacle, and a spring for normally holding the inner receptacle with its opening out of register with the opening of the outer receptacle, sub-- stantially as described.
2. Ina candy-holder, the combination of an outer receptacle, an inner receptacle, aspring interposed between the receptacles-for norf. 4 mallyholding the inner receptacle at one end of the outer receptacle, means at the other end of the outer receptacle to prevent the inner receptacle from coming out, and an opening in each receptacle, normally out of alinement but adapted to be brught into alinement for removing the contents of the innerreceptacle, ysubstantially as described.
3. In a candy-holder, an outer tube closed at one end and an inwardly-extending flange at the other, in' combination with an inner tube closed at both ends, a spring normally holding the inner y'tube at one end of the outer tube, and an opening in each tube, normally out of alinement but adapted to be brought into alinement, substantially as described.
4. In a candy-holder, an outer tube closed at one end and partly closed at the other, in
combination with an inner tube sliclingly mounted therein and normally held at one end of the outer tube by e spring between the ends of the tubes, said inner and outer tubes having' Corresponding openings adapted to be brought into alinernent by pressing said spring.
In testimony Whereot l have signed rn y naine to this specilicntion in the presence ol two sub seribing` witnesses.
JOHN .1 whims, JR.
