A. f l it i EAVES-TROUGH HANGER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No, 707,941, dated August 26, 1902.
Application filed March 15, 1902. Serial No. 98,378. (No model.) 7
TO (LZZ whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD POPE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hollidaysburg, in the county of Blair and State ofPennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Eaves-Trough Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to eavestrough or gutter hangers, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and efficient construction of hanger which can be quickly and easily adjusted to suit various conditions, whereby the gutter may be held at the proper position below the eaves of the roof.
WVith this object in view the invention consists, essentially, in constructing a hanger and bracket members in such a manner that they can be quickly and easily connected to each other and also quickly and easily adjusted with reference to each other.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view show ing the practical application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a device illustrating my invention. Fig.3 is a detail perspective View showing inner face of the lower portion of the hanger member. Fig. 4: is a detail perspective View of the bracket member. Fig. 5 is a sectional View on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2. Figs. 6, 7, and 8 are views illustrating a slightly-modified means for securing the hanger member.
In carrying out my invention I employ a hanger member A, the upper portion of which is adapted to be secured to the lower end of the roof, the lower end depending vertically from the edge of the roof, and said depending portion is slotted vertically, as shown at A, and the rear face of the said depending portion is provided with serrated ribs A on opposite sides of the slot A.
The hanger member 13 comprises the curved supporting-arm B and the plate or bearing portion B which is preferably formed integral with the supporting-arm B and is adapted to bear against the depending member of the hanger. This plate 13 has a rear wardly-extendin g lug B which is adapted to pass through the slot A, and adjacent to the upper end of the plate is a T-shaped pin B which is adapted to pass through the slot and engage the notched ribs at the rear of the depending portion of the hanger. The lug B has an opening B produced therein, through which a lockingpin 13 is passed, said pin also engaging the notched ribs A adjacent to their lower ends, the T-shaped pin B engaging them adjacent to their upper ends, as most clearly shown in Fig. 2, and by this construction the bracket-arm B is securely fastened to the hanger member. The bracketarm is also provided with a forwardly-project ing lip B which is adapted to grasp the inner edge of the gutter, as most clearly shown in Fig. 1.
In Fig. (5 I have shown a circular plate A", which is adapted to be secured to the side of the building, said plate having the tapering guides A connected thereto, in which fit the wedge-shaped wings A carried by the depending hanger member, as most clearly shown in Fig. 7, and it will be understood that this construction is employed in cases where it is not convenient to attach the hanger member to the roof of the building. The other portions of the device, however, are identical with those already described, and the operations will of course be the same.
By means of the hanger member and supporting-brackets constructed as herein shown and described I am enabled to quickly and easily adjust the supporting-bracket upon the hanger member, so that the gutter can be held at the proper position beneath the eaves of the building.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A device of the kind described comprising the hanger member having a depending vertical slotted portion, the inner face of which is provided with notched ribs, and a bracket-arm having a T-shaped pin, and a perforated lug adapted to be passed through the said slotted member, and a pin adapted to be passed through the said perforated lug, and engage the notched ribs, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with the hanger memher, the depending portion of which is slotted vertically and provided with notched ribs upon opposite sides of the said slot, of a bracket-arm having a T-shaped pin adjacent to its upper end and a perforated lug adjacent to its lower end, said lug being adapted to be passed through the vertical slot, and a locking-pin adapted to be passed through the perforated lug, for the purpose described.
3. The combination with a hanger member having its depending portion slotted vertically and provided with notched ribs upon opposite sides of the slot, the bracket mem ber comprising the curved supporting-arm having the forwardly-projecting lip, and the plate having the T-shaped pin at its upper end, and a rearwardly-projecting perforated lug adjacent to its lower end, and the lockber having rearwardly-projecting T-shaped pin adjacent to its upper end, and a perforated lug adjacent to its lower end, and the locking-pin adapted to be passed through said perforated lug for the purpose specified.
HOWARD POPE.
