SLOT-MACHINE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,358, dated June 3, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LWILHELM KLEPETAR, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Pilsen, Austria-Hungary, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slot- Machines, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention has reference to improvements in slot machines, and relates more especially to safety means for slot-machines for vending pasteboard tickets; and the object of my improvements is to prevent a ticket once given out from being taken back again by the receding delivery-slide and also prevent the introduction of flat objects into the delivery-opening for the purpose of fraudulently extracting tickets.

In order to make the invention more readily understood, I have illustrated it on the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 of which represents a vertical sectional elevation of a slot-machine provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a plan view, partly in section; and Fig. 4 represents the essential parts of my invention on an enlarged scale. 4

The front wall 2 of the receptacle 1, containing the supply of tickets, is provided near the bottom plate 3 with the delivery-slot 4 for the issuance of the tickets. Below the bottom plate the delivery-slide 6, with the ledge or turned-over edge 8 and handle 7, is slidingly arranged in guide-pieces 5. A coil-spring 10 causes the slide and handle to recede when the handle is let goby the purchaser after he has extracted a ticket.

In order to prevent a once-extracted ticket from being taken back again by the receding delivery-slide and also to prevent the introduction of a fiat tool for the purpose of fraudulently extracting tickets, I provide fiat springs 15 16, which allow of a ticket being extracted, but prevent the ticket from passing back again by clutching it at the slightest rearward movement. The springs 15 are secured with their upper ends to the front 2 .of the machine and behind the shield or housing 12 with delivery-opening 13, while the lower free ends project in front of the delivery-slot, and consequently in the path of the handed-out tickets. The fiat curved spring 16 is secured with one end to the bottom plate 3 of the machine and projects with its free frontend upwardly through an aperture 17 and likewise into the path of the issuing tickets, as is clearly shown in Fig. 4. In the drawings only one such spring 16 is shown; but it is obvious that two or more may be provided. A housing 18 prevents fraudulent manipulations of the spring or springs 16. When a ticket is being delivered, it can freely pass through between the giving free ends of the springs, but cannot pass back again, as the receding springs at once clutch and retain it. If for the purpose of fraudulently extracting tickets the attempt is made to introduce a flat tool into the delivery-opening, the receding springs would effectually prevent this. The free end of the spring or springs 16 may obviously also be placed behind the springs 15.

That I claim, and desire to secure by Let= ters Patent, is-

1. In a slot-machine for vending pasteboard tickets, with delivery-slide arrangement, the combination of a number of flat springs, secured with the upper ends tothe front face of the machine and projecting with the lower free ends into the delivery-path, a curved fiat spring, secured with the rearward end to the bottom plate of the machine and project ing with the free forward end through an aperture in the bottom plate of the machine and into the delivery-path, a shield or housing covering the said first-mentioned springs, and a housing for the curved spring, the parts being constructed, arranged and working, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
