FOUNTAIN-COM B.
SPIEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 678,004, dated July 9, 1901.
Application filed August 18, 1900. Serial No. 27,333. (Ntfmodel.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, SAMUEL L. MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Texarh kana, in the county of Miller and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful \-\l`ountain-Comb, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fountain-combs; and the object is to provide a device for the purpose of applying medicinal preparations in liquid form to the scalp, the device operating in a very effective and convenient manner.
With this object in View the invention consists in the novel details of construction hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figurel is a perspective view of a fountaincomb embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Referring now more' particularly to the drawings, A designates a liquid-containing receptacle which may be of any desired contour, formed of any preferred material, the saine in the present instance having an opening in one of its side walls and an ingress-opening in its upper wall, which opening is surrounded by a band or collar B and provided with an internally-screw-threaded receiving plug or stopper C. The opening in the side wall of the receptacle is surrounded on the exterior thereof with a hood or collar C,provided Vwith a screw-threaded opening in line with the opening in'the receptacle, and in this screw-threaded hood a valve-casing D is secured, containing a valve E. Connected with this valve-case is a bulb F, having a valve-casing G at its opposite end containinga valve H. I designates a pipe or tube communicating at one 'end with the valve-casing E and extending upwardly in the receptacle and through the band thereof and thence downwardly on the exterior of said receptacle. The pipe at its lower end carries a hollow semicircular head J. Inside of the receptacle-pipev I is provided with an open-ended branch pipe K, through which the liquid is drawn when the bulb is compressed. ,V
L designates a plurality of teeth formed integral at their upper ends with a semicircular hollow head M, which is united to the hollow head J, forming a chamber at the lower end of pipe l. Each of the ,teeth is provided with a passage N, opening at its lowerend through the tooth and at its upper end communicating with the chamber.
O designates a brace which is secured at one end to the head and extends beneath the receptacle and at its opposite en d is connected with the teeth.
P designates the handle, which'is of convenient form to be grasped by the hand, said handle at its inner end being secured to the collar of the receptacle and to the hood and at its opposite end to the valve-casing at that end of the bulb. This handle is provided with lateral wings Q, which extend at the sides of the bulb. Y
In operation the receptacleis filled with the preparation to be applied to the scalp and the teeth are drawn through the hair, the bulb being pressed, as in ordinary atomizers, which causes the liquid to be forced through the teeth to the scalp.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 'is- A device ofthe character described comprising a receptacle provided with a llinging, a pipe positioned in saidreceptacle and projecting at its ends through thevfront and rear walls thereof and having a branch pipe extending downwardly inthereceptacle, a handle secured to the rear side of the receptacle, a bulb secured beneath said handle and communicating at its outlet end with the projecting end of the pipe and having an inlet at its opposite end, valves controlling said inlet and outlet, a tubular head positioned upon the front side of the receptacle and cornmunicating withrthe other4 end of the pipe, and a plurality of teeth depending from said head and having passages extending therethrough and communicating with the'head, A
Substantially as described.
SAMUEL L. MYERS. Witnesses:
MONROE SMITH, RoxIE SMITH.
