Be it known that we, GEDRGE Gnneonr and F. B. This invention 4relates to' un improvement in what is termed a. stuup'joint for carriages, that is to any, th'e joint in the braces which supports the top in an upright position or permits it to drop when the joint is open,

Thus formed,

the joint is ready for mnrket. The braces are welded to each of the parts und formed sons to conform to .the

construction of the carrin'ge'top.'

We do not wis'h to be understood ns'broadly claiming n joint formed by they stud upon one part fitting into the corresponding recess inl the other, ns such is. common and well known. Our invention is simply for an improved article of manufacture.` Y

Having thus Fully described our invention, what we claim i new and useful, and desire ,to secure by Let'- ters Patent, is.

' The here'inhdescribed stump joint as an improved article of manufactureeonsisting of the two parts Aantrupon theearof one of which is formed. a stud, a, nndin the' other. a corresponding recess, so that the said* stud forms the bearing or pivot for the joint, substantially as herein set forth.
