FIE-- b PCA Mme/1 lNiTE STATES PATENT OFFIC GEORGE F. FLASHMAN, OF BANGOR, SOUTH DAKOTA.
DETACHABLE OR KNOCKDOWN BO'OKCASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 624,637, dated May 9, 1899.
Application filed January 18, 1899. Serial No. 702,534. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. FLASHMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bangor, in the county of Walworth and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable or Knockdown Bookcases; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de-' scription of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates toan improved detachable or sectional bookcase; and the objectis to provide a simple, cheap, and durable device of this character.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved separable bookcase. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section through the front and back corner-posts. Fig. 3 is a section through the front posts. Fig. 4 is a transverse section.
In the drawings, 1, 2, and 3 denote the front posts, and 4., 5, and 6 the back posts, all of which are provided with suitable knobs 7, which form the feet for the case to rest upon.
8 8' denote enlarged sockets formed integral with the posts, those on the front posts being formed with right-hand and those on the back posts with left-hand screw-threads -to receive the correspondingly-threaded formed on the front and rear posts to receive the c'orrespondiugly-threaded shelf-rods 12 with a curved flange 14 to encompass the front shelf-rods 12 and with a hinged section 15, which closes down over the back shelf rod, and thereby locks the shelf in place.
16 denotes the back of the bookcase, which is'removably secured to the back rods by the screws, and 17 denote clamps which are used to secure the case to the wall when suspended above thefloor, in which instance the knob feet may be dispensed with, if desired.
The entire device may be finished in brass or nickelplated and suitably ornamented and any number of sections fitted together, as required for the use to which the case is applied.
It will of course be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and. the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificin g any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
A sectional bookcase comprising the front and back posts, the parallel braces connecting them, the shelf-rods connecting the front posts, and the corresponding rods connecting the back posts, and the shelves formed with the curved flange 14 and hinged section 15,
substantially as shown and described.
