NITED STATES THOMAS A. JOHNSON AND FOSTER G. KIRKSCEY, OF TYLER, TEXAS, ASSIGNORS TO THE JOHNSON MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DOUCHE-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 621,252, dated March 14, 1899.
I Application filed March 17,1898. Serial No. 674,191. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, THOMAS A. JOHNSON and FOsTER G. KIRKSCEY, citizens of the United States, residing at Tyler, in the county of Smith and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Douche-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to folding tables,
IO and particularly to surgical tables.
The object of the invention is to provide a d Ouche-board in two parts, each part having a water drain or channel and adapted to be folded to consume small space when not in use and for convenience in storing, packing, or transportation, and when unfolded said drains or channels adapted to register and form one continuous channel.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a douche-board to hold a female person in the best and only proper position to take a vaginal douche, which may be done without removing the clothing, yet without wetting or otherwise soiling the same.
The invention-consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, and resides, essentially, in the special shape or form of the douche-board, as will be hereinafter. more fully described in the specification and set up in the claim to follow.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention in position to be used. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 0000, Fig. 1.
3 5 Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device in folded position. Fig. at is a bottom plan view with the legs and braces folded preparatory to folding the board portions.
The same numeral references denote the same parts throughout the several figures of the drawings. I
The head-legs 1 are pivoted to the headboard portion 2 at 3 and have jointed braces 4 connecting the legs to the said board portion. Foot-legs 5, of shorter length than the legs 1, are pivoted at 6 to the footboard portion 7 and have short jointed braces 8 connecting these legs and this board portion together. The board portions 2 and 7 are of equal size, are connected together by side hinges 9, and secured in folded position by an end hook 10 and pin 10. A sufficient portion'of the bottom of the boards 2 and 7 is removed to permit the close folding of the legs and braces, whereby the sameare completely 5 5 covered or concealed by the said boards in folded position, as clearly shown by Fig. 3.
The douche-surface or top of the boards 2 and 7 are constructed as follows: The headboard 2 has an end strip 11 secured thereto, and to which strip is joined one end of the' side strips 12. The other end of said strips terminate flush withthe hinged end of the said board. The footboard 7 has side strips 13 upon its top, which terminate at one end in the hinged end of the board and at the other end in the V-shaped piece 14E, one edge of the piece 14: being flush with the end of said board and the other edge being V-shaped and having a central cavity or recess 15, which partially surrounds a Water-discharge aperture 16 in the board 7.
The board has ahandle 17 for carrying when folded.
It is obvious that the incline or slant is ac- 'complished by the diiference in the length of the legs; that the top of the boards when in. operative position form a continuous douchesurface entirely surrounded, so as to insure perfect draining of said surface during the application of the douche, and that inasmuch as the part of the body to be treated rests below the hinged joint there is no leakage from the board during the operation.
It is obvious that the douche-surface may be formed by hollowing out a thick board, forming the V end therein, cutting the board in two equal lengths, and hinging them together, and we therefore do not Wish to be understood as limiting ourselves to either 0 form. It may be desirable to employ a continuous board without being cut or hinged, or more or less braces may be used and the device varied in size or dimensions without departing from the spirit of our invention.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Afoldin g douche-table comprising the head portion having a strip or bead at one end and each side of its top surface, legs pivoted to form a continuous douche-surface between to said portion and having braces adapted to the said side and end pieces, substantially as be folded with said legs into said portion, the set forth.
foot portion having side top'strips or beads In Witness whereof We hereunto set our 5 and hinged to the said head portion, a V- hands in the presence of two witnesses.

braces adapted to be folded therein, each of WV. G. HUMAN,
