JOSEPH E. KLEINER, OF VVATERTOWVN, AND LE ROY PARKINSON, OF FOX LAKE, WISCONSIN; SAID PARKINSON ASSIGNOR TO SAID KLEINER; KLEINER ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK E. WOODARD, OF WATER- TOWN, WISCONSIN.
STORE FURNITURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 617,292, dated. January 3, 1899 Application filed July 11, 1898- Serial No. 685,580. (No model-l T at whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOSEPH E. KLEIN ER, a resident of l/Vatertown, in the county of J efferson, and LE ROY PARKINSON, a resident of Fox Lake, in the county of Dodge, State of Wisconsin, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Store Furniture; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
to exact description thereof.
Our invention has for its object to provide simple, economical, and convenient articles of store furniture especially designed for the exhibition of cheese unexposed to dust or inr 5 sects and to facilitate retail trade of the cheese. Therefore said invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter particularly set forth,
with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents ahorizontal section of a cheese-case in accordance with our invention, the plane of the section being indicated by line 11 in the succeeding 2 5 figure of the series; Fig. 2, a rear elevation of the cheese-case, and Fig. 3 a vertical section of said cheese-case indicated by line 3 3 in the first figure of said series.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents the bottom of an open-back preferably rectangular case having transparent front and end panels B, as best illustrated in Fig. 1. The case-bottom has a semicircular rear extension A, and it is preferable to have 3 5 a rear section 0 of the case-top in hinge connection with the remainder thereof, as is best shown in Fig. 3.
As herein shown, it is preferable to have the semicircular rear bottom extension of the case provided with an upwardly-extended rear flange b, and if there be a hinged rear section of the case-top the same will be provided with a depending eye 0 for the engagement of a hook din pivotal connection with 5 a corner-post of said case, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The semicircular rear extension of the casebottom is provided with antifriction-rollers e at intervals of a circle, and a circular cheesesupport D bears on these rollers. A central pivot f, depending from the cheese-support, engages a recess in the case-bottom, .and a semicircular wall E connects said cheese-support with a semicircular head F, having an upwardly-extendin g central pivot g, engaging a recess in the preferably hinged rear portion 0 of the casing-top.
Catches G G on opposite rear corner-posts of the transparent case are for the engagement of a latch-handle H, extending from the wall E, that combines with cheese-supportD and head F to form a pivotal shell, the'latter serving inone position of its adjustment as a closure for the open back of said case, as best illustrated in 1, and the flange Z7, extending upward from the semicircular rear extension of the case-bottom, guards the space intermediate of said cheese-support and said case-bottom, whereby dust and dirt are ex cluded from said space.
As shown in Fig. 1, the support D has the projecting portion of its upper face preferably provided with a series of radial marks at predetermined intervals, and these marks constitute a scale by which to make approximate pound and half-pound cuts of cheese on said support.
When the shell-back support is swung to close the rear of the case above specified, the cheese on said support will be on exhibition unexposed to dust or insects, and said cheese being thus incased evaporation of its moisture is retarded. When cuts are to be made from the cheese, the shell-back support is swung around to expose said cheese in rear of the transparent case convenient to the operator, and it has been shown that said support may be latched at full swing in either direction of its pivotal adjustment.
The hinged rear section of the case-top being lifted away from the head pivot of the shell-back cheese-support the latter may be readily removed when it is desirable to cleanse the furniture of which it forms a part.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. An open-back transparent case having a rearwardly-extended bottom and a hinged rear top section provided with a recess, a circular cheese-support in pivot connection with the case-bottom, a semicircular wall rising from the cheese-support, a wall-supported head having a pivot engageable with the re cess in the hinged rear section of the case-top, and a semicircular flange extending up from the rear of the case-bottm extension to constitute a guard for the space intermediate unsection in down position.
3. An open-back transparent case having a rearwardly-extended bottom and a hinged rear top section provided with a recess, a circular cheese-support in pivot connection with the case-bottom, a semicircular wall rising from the cheese-support,and a wall-supported head having a pivot engageable with the recess in the hinged rear section of the case-top.
4 An open-back transparent case having a rearwardly-extended bottom, acircular cheese-support in pivot connection with the case-bottom, a semicircular wall rising from the cheese-support, a wall-supported head having pivot connection with the case-top, catches on opposite rear corner-posts of the case, and a latch-handle extending from said semicircular wall for engagement with either of the catches whereby said cheese-support may be locked at full swing in either direction of its pivotal adjustment.
5. An open-back transparent case having a rearwardly-extended bottom and a hinged rear top section provided with a recess, anti friction-rollers arranged at intervals of a circle in said bottom, a circular cheese-support in pivot connection with the case*bottom and in bearing on the rollers, a semicircular wall rising from the cheese-support, and a wallsupported head having a pivot engageable with the recess in the hinged rear section of the case-top.
In testimony that WG'CltlIIl the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands, at Watertown, in the county of Jefferson, and Fox Lake, in thecounty of Dodge, State of lVisconsin, in the presence of Witnesses.
