IMPROVEMENT "IN 011 HECTOR-S.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN.-
Be it known that I, HENRY SEARLE, of Rochcser, in the county of Monroe, and Stat e'of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in so combining two or more oil oj'ectors, with an airpump or steam boiler, by means of suitablep ipes and valves, as that any two of tho ejector-s may bcopcratcd by the one pump or boiler at thc same time; bypassing alternatclytho steam or compressed air used in the one, directly to the other, the chamber of each ejector becoming thereby alternately a compressed-air chamber and an exhausted receiver.
To enable others skilled in the art'to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation, by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Ashows a pipe, which is connected with the chamber, a, of my ejector No. 1, in a well. B, a pipe connected with the chamber, b,.of my ejector No. 2, in a well. .The pipes C Dconncct respectively with the induction and educti on' apertures of the piston-chamber of an air-pump, or, where steam is used, with a steam boiler, in which case the one pipe, D, is alone connected with'the lJOIkGl',j the pipe, K, being left as an escape pipe.. G and H show stop-cocks, by means of which the current of air is changed from one ejector to 'the other- Valvos or other mechanical devices for arresting, controlling, and regulating the currents of air or steam, may be substituted for the ordinary stop-cocks shown in the' drawings, and two may be made to perform the necessary functions of my apparatus instead of four, although- I prefer four as hereafter described. /In using air I contemplate keeping. the air-pumpeonstantly working; ,then by opening the cocks E and H, and closing all others, the air in the chamber 6 of the ejector No. 2 is exhausted, and the air forced into the chamber act the ejector No.1, making the chamber-'6 an exhausted reccivenanll the chamber uncompressed-air chamber. The cocks E and H arethen closed, and the cocks-Guild F are opencdt the. air-pump still working in .thc samemanncr. Now-it will be seen that by connecting the piston-chamber of an-airep'ump with the induction and eduction pipes C and D and keeping the air-pump constantly at work, thc.'stop-cocks, being in-the proper position, the air is taken from the chamber of one ejector and forced into thechamber-of the other ejector;' and by opening and closing the stopcocks, as before described, the current of 'air is changed frorii one ejector to the other, andthe same air used in one ejector is also used in the other, thereby making the chamber of each ejector, alternately acompressed-- air chamber and exhausted receiver. It will also'be seen that when a supply of "air is required, by closing the stop-cocks H, G, and F, and opening the cocks I and E, the air is taken in from the atmosphere at K, and forced into the chamber of theejector No.1. .By changing the cocks the air may be forced into the ejector No.- 2.
When I use steam, I first close cocks F and G, and allow the steam to pass down pipe A, then close E, and open G, allow steam to ,pass into the pipe 13, after which I'close. cocks'H and G, opening F, steam to pass from boiler under press urc into pipe B. In mean time the condensation of steam in. ejector a will fill with oil, to be expelled at next admission of steam, which is obtained by operating cocks as above described.
I amawarc of a patent issued to F. S. Pease, on March 28, 1865, for ejecting oil or other fluids from wells and other deep places, by intermittent pulsating action or repeated vibration of a'con fined body of air or other fluid.
I hereby disclaim anything patented by him, but what I do claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The arrangement of two or more ejectors (for raising oil or othcr fluids from wells and oth-er'deep places) with each other, and with pipes and cooks or'valves, substantially in the manner and for the purpose'de'scribed.
2. The arrangement of two or more cocks or equivalent valves E PG and H, in combination with the pipes A and B, a; the purpose of changing the action of a column of compressed air or other fluid alternately from onscjector to another, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
3. The combination of the pipes A B O D, and cocks or valves E, F, G, H, with independent ejectors a and b, for the purpose of making the chamber of each. ejector act alternatelyas a compressed-air chamber and as an exhausted receiver.
