C C is an iron slide, being made fast in B and movable back and forth.; through a mortise in A A. D is a steel spring, one end screwed or riveted to the side of A A and the other end being bent and goingthrough A A so as to strike the slide C C with sul'ieient force to prevent its sliding of itself.
The wrench should be so applied in use as that the pressure on the corner of the nut near the person using the wrench (the handle being toward him) shall always fall on the main jaw, or A A, and in this Way the @ramp prevents the sliding of C C.
What I claim, is-
A w1'encl1,in which the jaw A is formed by a solid extension of the handle, and the movable jaw B is connected therewith by the stem C, passing through a mortise at the base of the jaw A, beingretained in place by the pressure of the spring D upon the side thereof, substantially as set forth.
