To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, REDDIN W. PARRA- MORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Asbury Park, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Garment-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

The purpose of this invention is to devise a simple and effective fastener to be used in connection with hose and garment supporters and which will obviate injury to delicate fabrics.

The improvement consists, essentially, of a block or stud of desired shape, grooved or indented in its opposite or upper and lower edges, a bail or swinging loop, and a plate having the bail hinged or pivotally connected therewith a short distance from the end adjacent to the bail or loop, whereby the fabric or garment to be secured is adapted to be clamped between the grooved edges of the stud or block and the free ends of the plate and bail or loop.

The improvement also consists in certain details of construction and novel combination of the parts which hereinafter will be more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

The improvement is susceptible of various changes in the form, proportion,and the minor details of construction without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and to a full disclosure of the invention an adaptation thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is aperspective view of a fastener embodying the essence of this invention. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the fastener applied. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the fastener. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the block or stud. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the plate having the bail or swinging loop connected therewith.

Similar and corresponding parts are designated in the following description and all the figures of the drawings by the same referencecharacters.

The block or stud 1, which may have any desired shape, is shown elliptical in form, and is indented or grooved in its top and bottom edges, as shown at 2, the side edges being straight. This block or stud is attached to the end of an elastic or tape 3 in any convenient and substantial manner and may be of any material commonly employed in constructing devices of this character.

The plate 4 is secured to the elastic or tape 3 in any of the usual Ways, and, as shown, it is doubled or folded upon itself, and side portions 5 are bent over the edges of the elastic or tape and clenched upon the rear portion of the plate, so as to securely clamp the elastic or tape between the folded end portions of the plate. The bail or swinging loop 6 is hinged or pivotally connected with the plate 4 a short distance from its free end, preferably by having the folded portions of the plate indented, so as to receive the pivotal end of the bail. The free end of the plate 4 may be straight or conformed to the upper grooved edge of the block or stud, and the lower or free end of the bail or swinging loop 6 may be formed in a similar way, accordingly as it is required to have the said ends engage with the grooved edges of the block or stud at one or more points.

Upon turning the bail or swingingloop upon its pivotal connection with the plate 4 the distance between the free ends of the parts 4 and 6 is increased to such an extent as to admit of the block or stud 1 being readily passed into the bail or loop and engaged therewith, and upon bringing the parts 4 and 6 into alinement the free ends thereof will approach and bind the fabric or garment between the grooved edges of the block or stud 1 and the free ends of the plate 4 and the bail 6, as will be readily understood. By having the opposite edges of the block or stud l grooved or indented positive connection is had between the block and the parts 4 and 6, and the gar ment is deflected or crowded into the said grooves and is prevented from slipping after proper connection has been made between it and the fastener. When it is required to release the garment or fabric, the bail 6, having the block or stud engaged therewith, is moved to the rear until the free endof the plate 4 is disengaged from the said block, after which the latter can be easily removed from the bail.

' Having thus describedthe invention, what is claimed as new is--= 1. A garment-fastener comprising a block indented in its opposite edges, a plate adapted to have its free end cooperate with one of the indented edges of the block, and a bail having pivotal connection with the plate a short distance from its free end and adapted to have its free end cooperate with the opposite indented edge of the said block, substantially in the manner set forth.

2. A garment-fastener comprising a block having its side edges constructed to prevent lateral movement of the block when the fastener is in service, and having its top and bottom edges indented, a plate having its free end conformed to and adapted to cooperate with the top indented edge of the block, and a bail having pivotal'connection with the plate a short distance from its free end and having its free end conformed to the lower indented edge of the block and adapted to cooperate therewith, substantially in the manner set forth for the purpose described.

3. In combination, a block having its top and bottom edges indented, a bailto cooperate with one of the indented edges of the block, a plate doubled upon itself" and having side portions folded upon the rear portion of the plate, and having the bail pivotally held between the front and rear portions of the plate, and a tape having the block and the plate attached thereto in the manner set forth and for the purpose described.
