y This invention relates to a novel construction 1n adisplay stand foi' packages, and more especially for holding and displaying boxes .of cigars from which the cigars can be vended,

the object being to provide a stand adapted to hold a plurality of cigar boxes :in an at- `tractive manner, and whereby the different boxes can be brought into a position convenlent for obtaining access to the cigars.

The invention` consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully `'described' and specifically claimed.

In the accompanying drawings illustrating my 1nvention,-Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display stand with parts broken away'for convenience of illustration. Fig. 2 is a veri tical section of the same on the line 2--2 of.

Referring now to said drawings,1 indicates the base supporting the side uprights 2 and upon which all the parts of the display stand are supported. Arevoluble frame is carried by said uprights 2 and conveniently by a shaft 3 mounted upon said uprights 2 and extending between the same and upon which the revoluble frame is rigidly secured. Thev up-V rights 2 are provided with upwardly extending parts 4 that rise above the revolubleframe and are provided at their upper ends with a connecting cross-piece 5 that serves to steady the frame and by means of 'which the covers of the boxes are closed and may also be used for displaying an advertisement, or the like.

The stopdevice consists broadly of a plul rality of `notches or shoulders upon the frame Vadapted to be engaged by a detent upon the upright's, and in the instance illustrated consists of a ring or curved bar 9 having a' plurality of depressions 10 located to engage a projection 11 upon the uprights, said projection consisting of an anti-friction roller mounted upon a slide 12 set within" guides 13 in the uprights. This slide 12 is provided with lugs 14 for holding it in position anda spring v15 is located between the lower end of the slide and the bottom of the guide slot and serves tohold the slide and the anti-friction roller in. an elevated position.

It is preferable to arrange a stop device at each side ofthe display stand and it is obvious that when the wheel is turned the ring or curved ybar 9 will move the slide against the action ofthe spring and permit the frame to be turned until another notch or depression 10arrives opposite theanti-friction roller,

whereupon the frame will be again engaged and can be turned from this position by the application of a little force.

The box-holders 7, as before referred to, are y supported near the peripheryof the wheel andV in the wheels shown at the points of the star.

The said box-holders consist of a rectangular' lframe piece having the sides 16 forming the way a pivotal connection is made between each of the box-holders and-the wheels, while y In this IOO the center of gravity in each box-holder is below such pivotal connection, whereby the box-holders always retain their horizontal position. In accordance with my invention I can employ box-holders varying in construction and 1n Fig. 2y have so illustrated the same, for instance, the upper box-holder and the lower rlght-hand box-holder are made with a rigid frame, while the other three box-holders have a pivoted or jointed frame, and it will be understood, of course, that all of the box-holders in any particular display stand can be made in accordance with any of these patterns.

The box-holder with the jointed frame is intended for use more especially in a display stand intended to hold boxes that may vary in size, while the box-holders with the rigid frames are intended for use for boxes of a certain size.

In constructing the boxes with the jointed frame the end posts 17 are made in two sections rigidly secured at their lower ends to the side pieces 16, while the pivot 18 passes through the upper ends of these sections of the end pieces 17. Near their upper ends the said sections of the end pieces, 17 are provided with stops or shoulders 19 to limit the inward movement of the jointed sections of the box-holder.v A spring 2O extends between the sections of the box-holder and serves to exert a stress to hold the sections together. The side pieces 16 have inwardly projecting lugs 21 near their lower edges upon which the box rests, and is also provided with inwardly extending points or pinsv22 to enter the sides of the boxand hold it rigidly in place. I have provided also an arm for holding the cover of the box in an elevated position which is adapted to engage said cover automatically when lifted. The said arm 23 is pivoted at its lower end by pivot 24 to the rear side piece 16 of the box-holder and has a lateral projection 25 provided with stops 26 that serve to limit the movement of said arm 23 and also to holdv the arm rigidly in the path of the cover of the box. At its upper end the said arm is provided with atinger 27 having a notch 28 on its inner side to engage the side edge of the cover of the box when it is -elevated, said nger and notch being made in the form of a latch so that the cover can be engaged and disengaged therefrom with the application of a little force. As shown in dotted lines in the drawings, when the cover of the box is raised it will first strike the iinger of the arm and swing the arm on its .pivot until it reaches the notch and is engaged thereby and held in an elevated position. The notch 28 is beveled around it slightly, so that while it holds the cover in a raised position said cover canjbe easily disengaged.

As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the top crosspiece 5 between the extensions 4 of the uprights is arranged to encounter a cover of a cigar box when the latter is raised, and when the revoluble frame is turned to the rear on top the upper portion ofthe cover will strike the said cross-piece and will be disengaged from the catch arm 23 when closed.

In the construction of the box-holder shown by the upper box-holder of Fig. 2, the frame ofthe box-holder is rigid and the points or pins for holding the box in place are carried by screws 29 that pass through the side pieces 16 of the box-holder, 'so that at'ter the box has been inserted the screws can be screwed into place.

The lower right-hand boxholder of Fig. 2 and the lower box-holder Aot Fig. 1 is constructed so that it receivesa box of acertain particular construction, for instance, the side pieces 16 have the inwardly projecting lugs 30 provided with uprising pins y31 and is also provided with screws 29 having pointed ends. With a box-holder ot' this construction the box must be provided with'a bottom of extra thickness having in its lower face holes or grooves to receive the pins 31,'as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

side piece of the box-holders can be provided with any suitable advertisement, such as, for instance, the name of the cigars to be placed in the machine, and in Fig. 1 it will be noted that the `front side piece 16 is broken away for the greater partof itslength, to illustrate the construction of the rear side piece.

I claim as my invention-- 1. A display stand comprising uprights, a revoluble frame mounted thereon, package holders pivoted to said revoluble frame and provided with devices for holding the cover of a package in an upright position, and a cross-piece or projection carried by said uprights to encounter said cover and release the same from the device holding it in a raised position to close the same as the frame revolves, substantially as described.

2. A display stand comprising uprights, a revoluble frame mounted upon said uprights and carrying a plurality of pivoted package holders, and a stop device located between the revoluble frame and uprights arranged practically as described to engage the revoluble frame at intervals, during its revolution, corresponding with the number of package holders carried thereby and arranged to automatically permit the revolution of said revoluble frame in either direction when force is applied to said revoluble frame, substantially as described.

, 5 I y ,1 stop device consisting of a yielding detent intervals during its lrevolution corresponding with the number of` package holders carried Y- thereby, and to automatically permit the revolution of said revoluble frame in either direction when force is applied thereto, said upon one of said parts, and a plurality of depressions or shoulders upon the other of said parts with which said detent can automatically engage orfbe disengaged in either direction, substantially as described.

4. A display stand comprising uprights, a

8. In a display stand a package holder coinprising a jointed frame consisting of side pieces 16 provided at each end with uprising angular end piece sections pivotally connected at their upper ends, a spring for holding said jointed sections of the package holder together, and devices for supporting and engaging a package, substantially as described.

9. In a display stand apackage holder comi prising a frame having devices for holding a package therein, and a pivotedl arm secured to the side piece of said package holder and provided at its upper end with a catch finger, substantially as described. l

10. In a display stand a package holder consisting of a frame provided with devices for holding a package, and an arm pivoted to said frameand provided with a lateral eXtension having a stop to encounter projections on the frame, and Weighted to hold the arm at the limit of its movement in one direction, and a catch nger at the upper end of said arm, substantially as described.
