I UNITED STATES PATENT -OFF1CE.
MARIE GAUL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
REFRESHMENT-SERVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 523,068, dated July 17, 1894.
Appli i n filed August 4, 1893. Serial No. 482,330- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARIE GAUL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders or Servers for Befreshments, 850., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new article of manufacture in the nature of a holder or server for refreshments and the like, the same being especially, though not exclusively, designed for use at social or festive gatherings, and to this end the invention as generally stated, comprises a frame-work provided with suitably-disposed plate and mug rests, and with a napkin holder which is designed for use as a handle, as will be hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings,-Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a similar view thereof as in use.
The improved server comprises a plate rest a, a glass or mug rest 01,, and a suitable supporting frame a The plate rest is preferably constructed of a pair of concentric rings, 1, 2, of wire, connected by radial arms 3, of like material, while the glass or mug rest a is preferably composed of a spun metallic cup. The frame a is constructed of a series of stout wire rods 4 secured at suitable intervals to the inner ring 2 and the side of the cup a, the body of the wire being expanded to permit the ready ingress and egress of a glass or other vessel. The lower ends of the rods 4 are extended below the cup a and spread outwardly to form feet 5 for the support of the device upon a table, &c. On one of the rods is formed or secured an exteriorlyprojecting handle a which is intended to serve as a napkin holder preparatory to the tendering of the server with the refreshments thereon, as illustrated in Fig. 2,-that is to say, the plate (b) containing the cake, confections, &c., is disposed upon the rest a; the mug or glass (0) containing lemonade, milk, &c., is supported upon the cup at, and the napkin (d) is inserted in the handle a whereupon the whole is tendered the guest.
It will be obvious that my device provides a very convenient means whereby viands may be readily held by an invalid while he or she is sitting in bed, &c.
The several parts are made as light and graceful as possible, consistent with rigidity and strength.
I claim as my invention 1. As a new article of manufacture, a holder or server for refreshments and the like, comprising a plate rest, a glass or mug rest, an open vertically-arranged frame-work connecting said rests, and a combined handle and napkin holder extending laterally outward from said frame, substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a holder or server for refreshments and the like, comprising a plate rest of wire, a glass or mug rest of spun metal, vertically-arranged rods connecting said rests, and a rigid handle projecting laterally outward from one of said rods, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' MARIE GAUL.
