(No Model.) I
A. THAMM. BAR BANDAGE.
No. 516,135. Patented Mar. 6-, 1894..

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADALBERT THAMM, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
EAR-BANDAG-E.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 516,135, dated March 6, 1894. Application filed Augus 21, 1893. Serial No. 183,651. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADALBERT THAMM, of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, in the Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Appliances for Laying Back Distended Ears, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide an apparatus by means of which the unsightly drawback of distended ears to which so many persons are subject may be remedied by forcing the ears by continued pressure into the position they are intended by nature to occupy, in such a manner that they permanently retain such position when the appliance is removed.
The invention Will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a section of my improved appliance; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal elevation of same, while Figs. 3 and 4 show a human head before and While the appliance is in position.
As will be seen from the drawings, the appliance consists of two pliers or cramps a each of which is laid backward over one car, while its bent hook shaped arm a dips into the shell of the ear e. When both the cramps a are connected by means of an elastic band b, passing round the neck of the wearer, the distended ears are constantly drawn toward the head owing to the pressure exerted by the said band and retain such position after the appliance has been removed. The appliless protracted period of time. The rear porso as grasp the shell of the ear, this bent over portion being adjusted to press more or less tightly by means of the screw 0. The cramps are further covered with a soft material so that the wearer is not inconvenienced in the slightest degree.
This appliance has the advantage that it can be worn permanently and without exciting observation. Moreover it differs materially from all other similar appliances from the fact that the ear passages are not stopped up with thick plugs or balls while the effect of the pressure of the elastic band is steady and certain.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
An appliance for laying back distended ears which consists of two cramps or pliers a fitted with hook shaped arms a to fitinto the shell and connected together by a tight elastic band 1) whereby the ears are pressed against the head by a gentle process of contraction substantially as described.
ADALBERT T HAMM.
