Description
i Unirse STATES PATENT @Erica MICHELE coRsINi, oE DENVER', COLORADO.
DISPLAY CASE OR CABIN-ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,474, dated Octobery 10, 1893. y
. Application let'i April 22, 1893.
To all whom it vmay concern.;
Beit known thatl, MICHELE CoRsINI, a citizen of theUnitedStates of America,re slding atDenver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Cases orCabinets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip` n tion of the invention, such as will enable othplace where it is desired that these articles should appear to the best advantage.
To this end the invention consistsof the features hereinafter described and claimed, all of which will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front v elevation of the device with the fronty door open,
and the top raised. Fig. 2 is a vertical long1tud1nal section taken through the case, the front door belng open and shown inelevation. Fig. 3 'is a vertical section taken through i `the closed case.
Figli is ahorizontal'section `taken on the line :zz-x, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the spring-blocks used 1n connection with door ofv the cabinet.
Slmllar reference characters indicating correspondlng parts or elements in the Views,
i let the numeral' 5 designate theback ofthe case to which are rigidly secured the sides 6, 6, and the bottom 7. The back and sides extend below the bottom and form the support for the case in the rear and at either side,
while in front the case is provided with a suitable base board 8. The top 9 is hinged to the c back as shown at 10. There are two shelves 12 and 13 supported upon cleats 12a and 13a which are attached to the sides of the case, and to which the shelves are made fast. The lower shelf 13 occupies an inclinedposition while the upper shelf is horizontal. These shelves are providedwith slotted cross-bars retain'.
Serial No. `471,451. l(lilo model.)v
12-and 13C respectively, the slots of which form niches for retaining the articles in place which itidesi'gned to exhibit in the case.
The front. 14k of the case is pivoted to the sides near its lower extremity as shown at 15,
vwhereby it may be opened downward to the.'
position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The inner surface of this front door is also provided with spring 'blocks 14a which perform thesame function as the slotted barson the shelves 12 and 13. These vblocksare grooved lat thetop, and one side is movable. The movable side is engaged by a coil-spring whose extremities are attached to the adjacent sides of the body of the block. The movable sides of the blocks graspthe articles tightly and hold them in place during the movement of the door, as `Well as when it is in the upright or closed position.
The shelves, as well as the inner surface of l the door andthe entire inner surface of the case, should becovered with a lining 16'ofk silk, satin or similar fabric to protect the articles laid thereon, from being marred or scratched by the material of which the case .is constructed. This lining is so attached that it will dip into the niches or slots and grooves formed in the bars and blocks carried`bythe shelves and door.
p Thecase is provided with a slidingboard 17 'I which engages the back ofthe case, and has a vertical movement, .being provided with tongues 17a which engage grooved ways formed in the sides of the case. This sliding board is connected with thedoorf14 bymeans` of rods 18 whose extremitiesare hookedinto eyes formed in the two parts, namely, the
slide and the door. The rods18 are attached to the door below the pivot 15. Hence as the door is opened,'the slide is moved upward.
The slide 17 is provided with a horizontal bar 17 C; which is apertured to receive the articles, as knives, which it is intended itv should The opening of the doormoves the slide upward sufficiently to place this bar 17 i above the upper shelf, and thereforein such a position as to makethe articles carried thereby, very conspicuous. It-'Will be observed that IOO the top 9A must Vfirst be raised l preparatoryto opening the case. Then as the door 14 islet down, the slide 17 is carried upward and the entire contents of the case exposed toyiew iu the most conspicuous-manner possible. Again, by reversing this' operationfthe V'case `1nf`ay"le closed,'and its contents concealed and protected. It will thus be seen that my improved display cabinet may be used to advantage for exhibiting silverware ofall descriptions, as knives, forks, spoonsgteaV andl coleesetsfjewelry of all kinds, manicure and toilet articles and surgical instruments. V
The case is preferably paneled to prevent the material from warping.
Having thus described rn-y invention, whatv I claim 'isl l.
