COMBINED DRESS STAY AND FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,004, dated August 29, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAURICE TRISDORFER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Dress Stay and Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to dress stays and fasteners, and it has for its object to provide a combined dress stay and fastener which may be readily attached to the desired article of apparel, and which shall furthermore prevent the accidental opening of thesame.

The invention consists of acombined dress stay and fastener consisting of a pair of resilient strips having casings, and hooks and eyes attached thereto as shall be hereinafter set forth in the specification and recited in the claim.

Figure 1 represents thev device applied to use in a dress. Fig. 2 represents a section thereof. Fig. 3 represents the pockets lapped over the ends of the strips and secured by an eyelet.

A, A indicate the resilient strips which are counterparts of each other and consist of sheet metal or other suitable material, the said strips being incased in a pocket B, of textile material (see Fig. 1), lapped over the ends of the strips as at .1; Figs. 1 and 3 and se cured by open eyelets a a; whih eyelets a a are also utilized for securing the strips to the edges of the dress front by sewing through the eyelets.

To the proper portions of the strips A and A, is attached an alternating series of bifurcated hooks and eyes, by means of the eyelets b and b, see Figs. 1 and 2, whereby greater security against the accidental opening of the clothes is obtained. Moreover the points of the hooks are inclined inward as Serial No. 444,701. (No model.)

In applying my invention to use I securea resilient strip A to one edge of a dress front Q and the other resilient strip A to the opposite edge thereof Q by sewing the same through the end eyelets a a and the open eyelets b b, and if necessary also along the edges of the fabric composing the pockets B. By thus sewing the strips to the dress front through the open eyelets which pass through the metal body of the fastener, the eyelets perform the dual function of holding the hooks and eyes to the strips and permitting the stays to be immovably fastened to the dress front by sewing as shown at S and S Figs. 1 and 2.

By my invention the ordinary front stays or steels used in the'front edges of a dress waist may be dispensed with as the strips A A serve as a substitute therefor-the opposite edges of the waist and bust portions of the dress being positively and smoothly held together by said strips thereby making the garment conform to general contour of the figure of the wearer and prevent accidental openings thereof which is a desideratum.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A combined dress stay and fastener consisting of two resilient, elastic strips having a fabric casing, said casing having. its open extremities lapped over and secured to the ends of the said strips by means of eyelets, each strip being provided with an alternating series of hooks and eyes attached thereto by means of eyelets, whereby ready means of attachment to the goods may be secured, each of the hooks having its toe depressed, as set forth.
