Description

SUSPENDER END.
N0. 489,727. Patented Jan. 10, 1893.

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' GEORGE W. BALDWIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SUSPENDER-END.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters lfatent No. 489,727, dated. January 10, 1893. Application filed November 14, 1892. Serial No. 451,943- (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, GEORGE W. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Ends; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part-of this specification.
My invention relates to a suspender end formed of a single piece of either ordinary, or what is known as ventilated webbing, having at its free ends metallic clips carrying pivoted button loops.
In the drawings forming part of this specification; Figure 1. is a perspective View of the Suspender ends with the button loops attached thereto, and; Fig. 2. is a perspective view of one of the button loops attached.
In the drawings A, is the webbing which is continuous, or of a single piece. Tothe free ends thereof are secured clips, which are constructed with a central or body portion and wings I) b. Before attachment the wings are at substantially right angles to the body and the top of the body part, as well as the edges of the wings, are provided with teeth I), which, when the clips are applied by bending down the wings, will be forced into the webbing and secure them firmly thereto. It is not essential that all the edges be provided with teeth or prongs and they may be also struck from the internal portion of the body or wing, as shown at the right hand in Fig. 1. Thelower edge of the body portion is formed into a tubular bearing 12 for the loop B. The loop B, is formed of wire or sheet metal with a wide part at the top for the button to pass through, a contracted part 72 and having in its lower end, a substantially circular eye or opening which .is to surround the button. This loop B, may be covered with fabric, leather, or other suitable material, to prevent chafing of the thread or of the shank of the button. The ends are used on suspenders in the ordinary manner and it will be apparent that the clips are easily applied to the webbing and with the wire eyes permanently pivoted in the tubular bearings, a very durable button loop is obtained and one that is nearly as flexible where attached to the button, as the ordinary fabric'loop, and that will be far more lasting.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
Asuspender end consisting of a single piece of webbing, with metallic pronged clips having Wings closed down on the free ends of the Webbing said clips having tubular hearings in which are permanently pivoted the button loops substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. BALDWIN.
