Description
(No Model.)
A. S. VOSE. ROTARY TRIMMER.
No. 457,386. Patented Aug. 11,- 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMBROSE S. VOSE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ROTARY TRIMM ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 457,386, dated August 11, 1891.
Application filed October 20; 1890. Serial No. 368,682 (No model.) 7
To all whom it may'concern:
Be it known that I, AMBROSE S. VOSE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sole-Trimming Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for trimming the heels or soles of boots or shoes, and is designed as an improvement upon the invention described and claimed in Letters Patent No. 417,612, granted to Vose and Huckins December 17, 1889.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of the trimmer set forth in the Letters Patent above mentioned, whereby advantages in simplicity and economy are secured.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a trimmer embodying my invention, the parts being separated to more clearly illustrate the construction and relation of said parts. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the trimmer with the parts in operative position.
Referring by letter to said drawings, A designates the wheelof the trimmer provided with the hub B, the annular groove or channel 0, the series of inclined throats D,having the recesses E at the mouth thereof and having a smooth periphery F and inclined annular flanges G, the purpose being to conform to the knives and the character of the work. In
the inclined throats D of the wheel are fitted the knives, blades, or cutters H, having the cutting-edges J, and at one side out out at K and provided with studs, pins, or projections L. In the annular groove or channel of the wheel is placed the annular ring or band M, having a series of kerfs or recesses N in the outer edge thereof to receive the pins or projections L of the cutters II. From this construction it will be seen that by turning the ring the knives will be pushed in or out, as may be desired, and then the cutting-edges thereof adjusted to suit the work, as will be readily understood.
The letter Q designates a screw-threaded boss having a central aperture for the passage of a driving rod or shaft. This hub is provided with an annular flange P, of a greater diameter than the hub, so that when in place it will project beyond the edges thereof and overlap the plate N, so as to retain it in the groove 0. This head is provided with a central aperture for the passage of a rod bywhich it may be secured to a driving-shaft.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a rotary trimmer, the combination, with the wheel having peripheral recesses and cutters, an annular groove upon one of its faces, an annular plate seated in said groove, and an interiorlyscrew-threaded hub,of the screw: threaded boss having a central aperture, and an annular flange projecting beyond the edges of the hub and overlapping the plate in the annular groove in the wheel, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
AMBROSE S. VOSE.
