GRINDING-MILL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,227, dated January 27', 1891.
Application filed September 27, 1888. Serial No. 286,512. (No model.)
To (tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREAS MALscH, of Munich, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Grinding-Mill, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to various improvements in grinding-mills; and it consists in the features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is an elevation, partly in section, of my improved grinding-mill. Fig. II is an enlarged elevation, partly in section, of the upper part thereof. Fig. III is a similar elevation of the lower part thereof, and Fig. IV a top view of cylinder 1 The letter (t represents the bed-stone, that may be revolved by gear-wheel Z on shaft Z, said gear-wheel engaging the corrugated flange Z on stone (4. Thus the bed-stone may be leveled and may also be raised and lowered. The shaft 7), that rotates the runners, is placed eccentrically to the shaft a of the bed-stone. Thus the runners traverse the entire surface of the bed-stone. The shaft 1) is surrounded by a cylindrical sleeve L, fast on cross-beam L. To the lower end of this sleeve there is rigidly secured the bevelwheel Z. The shaft 1) projects beneath this wheel and carries by hub d a drum (I, that revolves with the shaft.
e e are the inclined spindles of the runners C. These spindles project into drum d and carry at their inner ends the bevel-wheels Z, engaging the bevel-wheel Z. The rotation of shaft 1) will cause the drum d to revolve, and the latter will cause the runners to travel over the bed-stone. The bevel-gear Z Z insures auniform rotation of the runners. The runners C may be adjusted higher up or lower down upon their spindles c by means of nuts 7e 7e.
In order to lubricate the spindles c and to prevent the lubricant from dropping upon the bed-stone, I employ the following construction: \Vithin the drum (1 each spindle e is surrounded by a perforated disk S, carrying the lubricator-cu S. Atits outer end-that is, directly back of runner Otlie spindle e terminates in a chamber 6*, placed in front of a stuffingbox c. On the rotation of the spindles the lubricant introduced at S will be thrown outward by centrifugal force. Thus the lubricant will, through stuffing-box 6, enter chamber o which collects it and prevents it from dripping down. The chamber 6 can be cleaned out every few days.
This improved mill will cause a uniform wearing of the stones and will bring all the matter to be ground between the stones.
\Vhat I claim is 1. The combination of bed-stone (I, having central shaft to and flange Z with shaft Z and gear-wheel Z, that engages said flange, a pair of cylinders :0 y, having inclined contact-edges, a rack .r on periphery of cylinder at, a crank-shaft y, having worm 3 engaging said rack, and with a hub a in cylinder yfor receiving shaft a, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of bed-stone a with cross-beam L, sleeve Ii, secured thereto and placed eccentricall y to the bed-stone, and with bevel-wheel Z, secured to the sleeve, a shaft 1), passing through the sleeve, a drum (1, se cured to the shaft, and runners 0, having spindles e, that project into the drum and are intergeared with wheel Z, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of suspended sleeve L,
carrying bevel-wheel Z, with inclosed shaft 5 b, carrying drum d,and with runners O, having spindles e,'that pass through the drum and are intergearecl with wheel Z, and with the perforated disk S, lubricator S, nuts is To, and chamber e on spindles e, substantially as specified.
