Description

S M RK DRAW LEAF. E.
Patented Apr. 1, 1890-.
Vllil UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON MARKS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE PARAGON SLATE COMPANY, OF OHIO.
DRAW- LEAF SLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,931, dated. April 1, 1890.
Applicati n fi September 30, 1889- Serial No. 325,522. (No model.)
' ure) for which Letters Patent were allowed me on July 6, 1889, Serial No. 311,332.
The object of my invention is to protect and strengthen the edges of the slate-leaves, to prevent buckling of said slate-leaves when made of non-rigid substance, and to form a smooth and even surface sliding in the grooves of the frame.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows a slate com plete with one of the leaves partially withdrawn. Fig. 2 shows one of the leaves entirely withdrawn. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section of the edge of the slate-leaf and metal binding, taken at 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters in the different drawings denote the same parts.
The binding designated by the letter a is made of thin strips of metal, bent twice at right angles longitudinally, so that a crosssection would show the form of the letter U, as seen in Fig. 3. This binding surrounds three edges of each slate-leaf, covering the edges and clasping the sides for a sufiicient distance, and is secured'by rivet-s to the tenons of the wood frame, which is permanently secured to the fourth edge.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as-new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In a draw-leaf slate, a slate-leaf having a metal binding on three sides and the fourth side rigidly attached to a side of the frame of said leaf-slate, substantially as described.
2. In a draw-leaf slate, a slate-leaf having a metal binding for three edges and a side of the frame of said draw-leaf slate for the other edge, substantially as described.
The foregoing specification of my invention signed by me this 16th day of September, A. D. 1889.
SOLOMON MARKS.
