VEGETABLE AND FRUIT PRESERVING CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 420,983, dated February 11,- 1890. Application filed. July 1, 1889 Serial No. 316,228. (No model.)

Be it known that I, GERHARD D. BASsE, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and useful Vegetable and Fruit Preserving Case; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention is a device that is an i1nprovement upon the device for which Letters Patent of the United States, No. 325,310,were issued to me September 1, 1885.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device, parts being broken away to show interior portions. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same device, parts being broken away to show interior portions. Fig. 3 is a top view or plan of the same device, parts being broken away to show interior parts.

The case A is divided vertically by the partition B into two chambers G C. These chambers at the front, rear, and sides are inclosed by glazed doors D and D and stationary panels E E. The chambers are each provided .with several shelves F F and F, some or all of which shelves in the chamber 0 are supported in an inclined position facing toward the door D. This chamber 0 is intended and adapted especially for receiving and preserving fruit or berries in boxes, and the shelves are inclined with reference to exhibiting the berries to view while within the case, as well as so locating them that they can be conveniently removed from the case.

The chamber 0 is more especially adapted for holding vegetables, and is provided with a water-spraying device G, located near the upper part of the chamber and attached to a water-supplying pipe G, which is connected with thewater-service pipes or other source of water-supply.

Immediately below the sprayer G- a small gutter L is preferably located, which catches any surplus water, carrying it to the sides of the chamber, where it is emptied upon the spouts L L and is discharged into the tank R, from which it is discharged through the waste-pipe M. it is not desirable to spray the water, but in which the fruit will be protected from dust, and at the same time will be kept cool and fresh by the cold radiated from the water and cooler air in the adjoining chamber 0.

The hooks S S on therear wall of the chamber C are adapted to receive the inner edge of the shelves F F thereon and hold the shelves in position. i

The case A has no bottom, and the air coming in freely through the lower ends of the chambers passes out through the apertures N N, whereby a constant circulation of fresh air is provided for.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A vegetable and fruit preserving case having two chambers located alongside each other and perforated shelves therein,in combination with a water-spraying device located in one of the chambers, substantially as described. v

2. 'A vegetable and fruit preserving case consisting of a case having two chambers and perforated shelves, the case being open at the bottom and provided with apertures at the top, in combination with a water-spraying device in one of the chambers, substantially as described.
