NITED STATES PATENT l OFFICEo CHRISTIAN F.v PFAU, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
EGG-BEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,058, dated April 9, 1889.
Application filed August 25, 1888I Serial No. 283,759. (No model.)
To @ZZ whomj t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN F. PFAU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in egg-beaters, the object being to provide a cheap device of the kind that will perform the work rapidly and efficiently; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view of an egg-beater embodying the invention. Fig. 2 represents a central longitudinal section of the same. 3 is a detail view of the sleeve and thi1nble,illustrat ing the manner of securing t-he wires of the beater.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the handle of the device, of suitable length and form, having its inner end inserted and secured by pins or otherwise in the adjacent end of a sleeve, B, preferably' of metal and of sufficient length.
C C are nire loops of ovoid form, and hav'- ing their ends c inserted and secured at diametrically-opposite points in the end of the sleeve B opposite that to which the handle is The ends c are preferably secured Within the sleeve by means of the thimble D, which is provided with longitudinal peripheral semicircular grooves adapted to receive the ends c of the wires, the thimble and wires being secured within the sleeve B, which snccessfully prevents the liability of the disengagement of the wires.
The wire loops are arranged at equal distances apart angularly, and decrease in length from top downward toward the center, each loop having its top or apex within and bearing against that of the adjacent outer'loop, as shown. The spring of the loops is outward, andby impin ging on each other, as described, they stay and support themselves suiiiciently to retain their contour and arrangement, While each is sufficiently free to vibrate independently for a short distance, the wire being elastic. The said wires are preferably of properly-tempered steel. This slight vibration or swinging back and forth of the loops hastens the process, and the enlarged surface afforded by the juxtaposition of the apices of the loops gives an increased beating power to the device.
Having described my invention, I claim- An eggbeater provided withl a metallic sleeve secured to a suitable handle, a thimble having longitudinal peripheral grooves, and the wires bent into loops and their ends secured between the sleeve and thimble in the grooves of the latter, the wires at their apices` bearing from Within outward on the adjacent ones and being free to move on each other, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN F. PFAU.
