Abstract

An attachable protective napkin for a man''s tie which may be readily fastened so as to protect the tie when being worn while eating from the splatter of food or other liquids. The device is a shaped section of laminated absorbent and waterproof paper or plastic sheeting. One end of the tie napkin is triangular shaped, so as to tuck about the tie and under the collar of the wearer, with the napkin shaped to the general outline of a man''s tie and of slightly larger dimension and fitted with flexible semi-rigid tie members that bend about the protected tie so as to retain the napkin in position.

The advantage of this device is it may be readily fastened in place so as to protect the tie of the wearer and may be readily disposed of after it has served its purpose. The tie napkin is fitted with means to fasten under the tabs of a-mans collar and about the outside of the tie, and is fitted with means on its lower section to fasten about the tie, being of the general shape of a tie but of slightly larger dimensions. The napkin is preferably fabricated with an exterior sheeting of absorbent paper bonded to light gauge plastic waterproof film.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective exploded view of the tie napkin, about to be fastened in place over the tie of a wearer;
FIG. 2 is an elevation view of the tie napkin in place; and
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIGS. 1-3 illustrate the tie napkin 10 which is designed to fit over the tie 11 of a wearer 20. The tie napkin 10 is preferably made from a laminate consisting of an inner surface 22 of light gauge plastic waterproof film and an outer layer 21 of absorbent paper. The exterior surface may be printed with a decoration 25 as desired. Tienapkin l fastens under the tabs 15 of 'the collar of the wearer 20 and is of the general shape of a dotted tie 11 except for the exaggerated knot section 26 of the tie napkin which is shaped with two protruding tabs 14 at the upper sides of the tie napkin designed to fit under each of the collar tabs 15. A semi-rigid strap 12 is fitted through slots 19 just below the knot section 26 of the tie napkin with straps 12 fitting either under the collar tabs 15 on each side, or strap 12 being bent around the tie 11. A similar semi-rigid strap 13 is fitted near the bottom section of the tie napkin through slots 19 and may be bent about the bottom of the tie 11 to hold the tie napkin in place. Semi-rigid straps 12 and 13 may be formed of a composite paper-wire structure, or alternately strings may be employed instead of the semi-rigid straps l2 and I3.
A further alternate embodiment is the use ofa continuous loop of elastic instead of semi-rigid straps l2 and 13 for fitting about the underside of the tie that is being covered.
Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A device for the protection of mans tie from the effects of splashing food and liquid while eating, said device formed of a composite sheet of a layer of plastic film laminated to a layer of absorbent paper, being formed in the general shape of a knotted mans tie and fitted with means for attachment over a conventional knotted mans tie that is worn in the customary mode,
said device shaped with laterally protruding tabs in the section of the device that covers the knot of the tie such that said tabs may extend under the tabs of the collar adjacent to the knotted tie, with each side of the lower portion of the device fitted with an aperature to form a through hole of a size to receive a strap, together with said strap, which is fabricated of a semi-rigid material and fastened through each of said holes for the purpose of attaching the device to the tie of the wearer along the length of the tie, said semi-rigid strap being formed of a composite of soft wire and paper.
