Abstract

The present invention relates generally to article display stands, more particularly to improvements in article display stands of the type having a plurality of vertically spaced article display racks. The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein includes a base and a plurality of laterally spaced post members supported by and extending upwardly from said base. A novel and structurally simple arrangement of bracket and brace members distributed vertically along one or both sides of posts serve effectively to display articles for sale.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION One of the problems incident to the display of articles for sale is that of providing a properly arranged display stand. The present invention is concerned with this problem, and contemplates the provision of an improved and novel stand structure which enables an effective, simultaneous display of a relatively large volume of articles as for example packaged articles adapted to be suspended from hooks and the like.

Another object of the present invention is to provide in an article display stand of the type set forth above, a novel arrangment of bracket and brace members which may be used interchangeably for displaying articles for sale on racks located either on one side, or on both sides of the upright post members, and which may be disposed at varied angles of inclination.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The above and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be more apparent from the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an article display stand of the type contemplated by the present invention;

FIG. 2 is a vertical, sectional view taken substantially along the line 22 of FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken substantially along the line 33 of FIG. 2;

FIG. 4 is an enlarged, fragmentary, perspective view more clearly to illustrate the structural arrangement and function of the interchangeable bracket and brace members;

FIG. 5 is a fragmentary, perspective view of the upper portion of one of the post members in which the bracket and brace members are disposed on opposite sides of a post member; and,

FIG. 6 is a perspective view of a conventional type detachable hook member used in association with perforated display panels.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to the drawings more in detail wherein like numerals have been employed to designate similar parts from the various figures, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention disclosed in FIGS. 1-4, inclusive, comprises a display stand designated generally by the numeral 10. The stand 10 includes a base 12 and a plurality of horizontally spaced, upright post members 14. The lower extremities of the post 14 are suitably attached to the base 12 along the rear margin thereof. To facilitate shifting of the display stand 10 along a floor surface a plurality of casters or rollers 16 are mounted on the underside of the base 12.

More specifically, the invention contemplates a unique arrangement of rack supporting bracket members and braces therefor which may be erected or dismantled with a minimum amount of effort and skill.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide a display stand arrangement of the type set forth above, in which the constituent parts thereof may be packaged for shipment in compact form and readily assembled and erected upon delivery.

Extending forwardly from the upper extremity of each upright member or post 14 is a bracket member or arm 18. The inner extremity of the bracket member 18 is secured as by means of screw or bolt 20 to the post 14. Bracket member 18 is maintained in its horizontal position through the agency of a brace member 22, the upper extremity of said brace member being suitably secured to the bracket member 18, and the lower extremity thereof is bolted at 24 to the post member 14. In the disclosed embodiment the upper edges of the bracket members 18 support a shelf 26 and the outer or forward extremities of the brackets 18 support a depending perforated panel or strip 28. Conventional Ushaped hooks 30 of the type disclosed in FIG. 6, may be inserted within each pair of apertures of the panel 28. The shelf 26 serves to support a plurality of containers or packaged goods 32 indicated by dotted lines in FIG. 1. The hooks 30 are adapted to support packages or bags 34 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.

Spaced downwardly from bracket member 18 and the brace member 22 is a corresponding bracket member 18a and brace member 22a. In this instance the brace member is positioned above the bracket member as distinguished from the previously mentioned brace member 22 which extends downwardly from the bracket member 18. The bracket members 18a, like the bracket members 18, carries a shelf member 26a which serves to support a plurality of package products 32a. A perforated panel 28a is secured to the outer extremities of the bracket members 18d and accommodates detachable hooks 30a for supporting packages -34a. Spaced downwardly from the bracket 18a and the brace 22a is a duplicate arrangement, the parts of which are identified by numerals corresponding with the numerals of the parts just described, only bearing the suffix b.

In the vicinity of the upper surface of the base 12, is a fourth bracket and brace arrangement in which a bracket is inclined downwardly from the post 14 toward the base 12. A horizontally disposed brace member 220 extends between the post 14 and the lower forward extremity of the bracket member 18c. A rather large perforated board 280 supported along the upper edges of the bracket members 180 and hooks 300 corresponding to the previously described hooks serve to support packages 340.

In order to lend lateral stability of the posts 14 with respect to the base 12, suitable strut devices or turn buckles 36 are employed. The upper extremity of the turn buckle 36 is bolted to its companion post member 14, and the lower extremity is secured to the base 12. The length of the turn buckle may be adjusted in the usual manner.

FIG. 5 discloses the manner in which bracket members and braces may be mounted on opposite sides of each post member 14.

A bracket 18d corresponding structurally and functionally with the bracket 18, and a brace member 22d corresponding with the previously described brace 22, extend from the opposite side of the post 14. Thus, by duplicating the previously described remaining brackets and brace members below the bracket member 18d and the brace member 22d, a display stand is provided in which articles for sale may be effectively displayed on opposite sides of the supporting posts 14.

From the foregoing it will be apparent that the present invention contemplates a display stand structure which is of unique and practical design. The constituent parts of the stand may be compactly packaged for shipment and erected at the place of delivery with a minimum amount of effort and skill. The design of the bracket and brace members is such as to enable them to be mounted upon the upright posts in various combinations in order to meet the particular conditions incident to their use. Attention is also directed to the fact that the vertical spacing of the shelves, panels, etc., is such as to assure unobstructed view of one side of the stand to the other side thereof. This is of particular significance when the article supporting shelves and panels are located on opposite sides of the post members. It will also be apparent that the simplicity of the structural arrangement is such as to assure economy in the production and hence minimum cost to the purchasers ofdisplay stands embodying the present invention.

1. An article display stand including a movable base having roller means thereon, laterally spaced post members extending upwardly from and supported by said base, a plurality of vertically spaced display rack supporting means mounted on each post member, each of said rack supporting means including an angularly adjustable bracket member mounted at one extremity upon and extending forwardly from a companion post member and a brace member interposed between said bracket member and said post member, upper pairs of said bracket members extending outwardly from respective post members in positions for gravity support of shelves thereon, an article supporting shelf carried by each of said upper pairs of bracket members, each said upper pair of bracket members having an elongate, perforated, relatively vertically narrow perforated display rack fixedly mounted thereon and depending from the forward extremity of said upper pairs of bracket members at substantially a right angle to and beneath the associated shelving, each of said display racks being vertically spaced from the shelf therebelow with the relatively narrow width of said display racks thus providing sufficient access space to the respective shelves therebelow, and said rack supporting means being spaced vertically a sufficient distance such that said spacing and the narrow nature of the display racks cooperate to provide a relatively unobstructed view from one side of the stand to the opposite side thereof, and the lowermost pair of bracket members inclined downwardly and forwardly from the post members toward said base, a relatively vertically wider perforated display rack supported on and substantially superimposing said lowermost pair of bracket members between said base and the post members, and hanger means associated with said relatively narrow display racks and with said relatively wider display rack for supporting I I articles to be displayed thereon.

2. An article display stand as set forth in claim 1, wherein strut devices extend between said base and the post members to lend lateral support for said post members.

3. An article display stand as set forth in claim 2, wherein the strut devices are in the nature of adjustable turn buckles.

4. An article display stand as set forth in claim 1, wherein guide rollers are positioned beneath the base to support the weight of the stand.

5. An article display stand as claimed in claim 1, wherein hooked support members are mounted in selected perforations of the display racks for supporting articles in front of the upper pairs of display racks and below the upper pairs of shelves, and for supporting additional articles in inclined upwardly facing position on the lower and wider display rack.

Claims

1. An article display stand including a movable base having roller means thereon, laterally spaced post members extending upwardly from and supported by said base, a plurality of vertically spaced display rack supporting means mounted on each post member, each of said rack supporting means including an angularly adjustable bracket member mounted at one extremity upon and extending forwardly from a companion post member and a brace member interposed between said bracket member and said post member, upper pairs of said bracket members extending outwardly from respective post members in positions for gravity support of shelves thereon, an article supporting shelf carried by each of said upper pairs of bracket members, each said upper pair of bracket members having an elongate, perforated, relatively vertically narrow perforated display rack fixedly mounted thereon and depending from the forward extremity of said upper pairs of bracket members at substantially a right angle to and beneath the associated shelving, each of said display racks being vertically spaced from the shelf therebelow with the relatively narrow width of said display racks thus providing sufficient access space to the respective shelves therebelow, and said rack supporting means being spaced vertically a sufficient distance such that said spacing and the narrow nature of the display racks cooperate to provide a relatively unobstructed view from one side of the stand to the opposite side thereof, and the lowermost pair of bracket members inclined downwardly and forwardly from the post members toward said base, a relatively vertically wider perforated display rack supported on and substantially superimposing said lowermost pair of bracket members between said base and the post members, and hanger means associated with said relatively narrow display racks and with said relatively wider display rack for supporting articles to be displayed thereon.
