Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EPHRAIM UULVER, OF SHELBURNE, AND THOMAS J. POMFROY, OF EAST HAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-SASH FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 38,290, dated April 28, 1863.
To all whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that we, EPHEATM CULVER, of Shelburne, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, and THOMAS J. PoMERoY, of East Hampton, in the county of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Method of Holdingand Fastenin g WindoW-Sashes 5 and we do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, as forming part of this specification.
In order that others may understand the nature of our invention, we will proceed to describe the construction and operation of the same.
l/Ve place in front of the sash on one side a perpendicular metallic rod, G C. We secure the upper end by a screw cut thereon,screw ing the rod into the top casing of the window, or any other way to make it fast in the direc-A tion of D. The lower end of the rod is secured to the side casing by the short arm G.
We pass the rod C through two perforated posts, A and B, which posts are secured one to the upper and one to the lower sash, by means of the enlarged base. We tix the sash at any desired height by the thumb-screw E or F. The sash is raised, the posts glide freely along the rod, and a turn of the thumbscrew fixes and fastens the sash at any desired point. We do not confine the position t0 the side of the sash, but attach the fasteners to the side, the middle, or any other point most convenient.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The rod G, the posts A and B, and the thumb-screws E or F, in combination, for the purpose herein specified.
