HAND TOOL FOR INSTALLING POINTS, CONDENSERS AND OTHER DEVICES This invention relates to hand tools and more particularly to a hand tool for the installation of points, condensers and other devices.
It is therefore the principal object of this invention to provide a hand tool of plier-like construction which will have the jaws adjustable with each other, so as to receive various sized condensers, points and other devices, so as to easily install them with a minimum of effort within a minimum of time.
Another object of this invention is to provide a hand tool of the type described by which one of the jaw members will have opening means for receiving the shank portion of a condenser or other object, in the case of a condenser, the slotted jaw will enable the spring to be depressed so as to expose the opening of the shank of the condenser so as to receive a wire.
Other objects of this invention are to provide a hand tool which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention shown in elevation with a condenser carried within the jaws of the device;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary top plan view of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary side view of the invention showing how a wire is inserted into the shank of the condenser shown.
According to this invention, a hand tool is shown to include a pair of pivotable handles 11 and 12 which are secured together by means of a fastener 13. Handle 12 is terminated by a jaw member 14 and handle 11 .is terminated by means of a jaw 15.
Jaw 15 is provided with an elongated slot 16 which defines various positions for the fastener 13 so as to adjust the distance between the jaws 14 and 15. The various positions are indicated by means of the spaced apart numerical characters 17 inscribed upon jaw 15.
The end of jaw 15 is provided with an open slot 18 for freely receiving the shank 19 of condenser 20.
When jaw 15 is urged towards jaw 14 by means of pressure upon the handles 11 and 12, the spring 19' is compressed and thus the wire 21 may be placed within the opening 22.
It shall be noted that tool 10 is adaptable for use in installing various type of components.
What I claim is:
l. A hand tool comprising a pair of pivotable handles having jaw members, a fastener carried by said handles enabling them to be pivotable and slot means through one of said jaw members, one for adjustment means of said tool and the other for receiving the shank portion of a condenser or other device.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said handles are pivotably carried one against the other by means of said fastener which serves as a pivot means for said handles and said jaws, one of said handles being terminated by a jaw member having a slot with various positions indicated by numerical characters on a face of said jaw.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein the end of said jaw members of said tool that has said slot for adjustment of said jaws, includes a slot portion for receiving the shank of a condenser, said slot portion enabling said jaw with said slot to compress the spring of said condenser which exposes an opening in the shank of said condenser so as to easily place a connecting wire therein, said jaw of said tool when released from said condenser, causes the spring of said condenser to engage an encroach upon said wire thus se- 4
Claims (3)
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein the end of said jaw members of said tool that has said slot for adjustment of said jaws, includes a slot portion for receiving the shank of a condenser, said slot portion enabling said jaw with said slot to compress the spring of said condEnser which exposes an opening in the shank of said condenser so as to easily place a connecting wire therein, said jaw of said tool when released from said condenser, causes the spring of said condenser to engage an encroach upon said wire thus securing it to said shank of said condenser.
