Description
UNITED STATES DAVID BASOH, or NEW YORK,
N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO ISAAC B. KLEINERT, OF
SAME PLACE.
EAR-MUFF.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 375,594, dated December 2'7, 1887.
Application filed July 7, 1887. Serial No. 243,662. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID BAsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ear- Muffs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ear covers or muffs; and it consists in the features set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a section in the plane 00 m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device, parts being broken away. Fig. 3 is a plan View of a blank to form a channel. Fig. 4 shows a slide and a holder jointed together. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective "iew of a slide. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of a holder.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the letterA indicates a holder of suitable material, such as stout metal wire. Said holder may be covered with cloth or other suitable material, so as to be pleasant in appearance and warm to the touch, so as to add to the comfort of the wearer. Joints, hinges, or pivots B connect the holder A and slides G. Stops D limit the motion of the slides on thejoints B.
The channels E are secured across the loops F. Said loops are to be covered with suitable materialsuch as cloth--which is secured over the loops, so as to form bags or mufls adapted to sit over and protect the ears of the wearer. Said channelsE are readily formed from blanks, such as shown in Fig. 3, said blanks being formed with bodies E, end portions, G H, and flaring portions I. The end portions, G H, are caused to clasp the loops F, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2. The body portion E is bent so as to form a channel in which the slide 0 can travel or move, while the flaring portion I is bent so as to form a stop or shoulders I, Figs. 1 and 2, against which the lug K of the slide 0 is made to strike, thus limiting the motion of 5 restagainst the holder A, the device is brought into compact form, and it can be readily carried in the pocket, while, if to be used, said device can be readily opened, so as to be placed in position to protect the ears of the wearer.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with the holder A, of the slides C, hinged to the ends of the holder and having the projecting stops D to abut said holder, the loops F, and the ways E, extending across the loops and receiving the slides,
substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the holder A, of the slides 0, having the lugs K and hinged to the ends of the holder and having the projecting stops 1) to abut said holder, the loops F, and the ways E, extending across the loops and having the stops I, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID BASGH. [L. s.]
Witnesses:
