1 Claim, 3 Drawing Figures AIR SEAT This invention relates generally to cushions.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide an air seat which is adaptable for placement upon a hard seat or bench or which maybe placed upon the ground so as to give a person greater comfort using the same.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an air seat which accordingly is ideal for use at baseball games and other events where persons are usually obliged to sit upon a hard bench or the like, or which alternately can be used by fishermen or campers who are often obliged to sit upon the ground or upon a hard rock when out of doors.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an air seat which in a deflated position can be readily folded up so to take up a minimum amount of space and thus be conveniently and easily transported.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an air seat which can be quickly and easily inflated by a person for operative use and which does not require any specialpumps but which can be inflated by simply a person blowing there into.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide an air seat which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention,
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 22 of FIG. 1, and
FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of the air cushion.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents an air cushion according to the present invention wherein there is a seat member and a back rest member, the seat member being defined by the reference numeral 11 and the back rest member being defined by the reference numeral 12.
The seat and the back rest are made integral and are foldable respective to each other about a bend or fold line 13 so that they may assume the position as shown in FIG. 1 or alternately they maybe folded back to back so that they maybe used only as a seat. Altemately they maybe laid out flat upon a ground so that two persons maybe seated there upon.
The seat 11 and the back rest 12 are each formed of a series of parallel, spaced apart inflatable tubes 14 which are spaced apart from each other by means of webs 15, each of the webs 15 being provided with a series of ventilation openings 16 there through so to give comfort during hot weather and allow a person to remain cool without perspiration remaining clinging to him.
The material used in the construction of the air seat may comprise the same material as is used in the construction of a good quality air mattress and is then covered with a nylon material. Accordingly the material is air proof so to prevent leakage of air there through. An air valve 17 inflatable by oral means is attached to each of the seal and back rest as shown in FIG. 1 so to permit air to be placed into the tubes or removed there from. The tubes of the seat and the tubes of the back rest maybe interconnected together so that only one air valve 17 maybe necessary as shown. The air valve 17 may be located along the edges of the seat and the back rest where they are out of the way so that a person does not lean against them when using the air seat.
It is to be noted that the air seat when inflated is floatable so that it would be particularly adaptable also for use on pleasure boats and which could be used as an emergency life saver by throwing it to a person in need in the water. Alternately the air seat by being floatable would not become lost if dropped in the water. Additionally the device might be adaptable for use in a swimming pool.
Thus there is provided an air seat providing advantages for a person who otherwise would be obliged to sit upon a hard surface.
What I now claim is:
1. In an air seat, the combination of a seat member and a back rest member, said seat member and said back rest member being attached pivotally together along a fold line, said seat member and said back rest member accordingly being adaptable for use in various respective positions to each other as preferred so that in one situation said seat member can be placed upon a hard bench or ground while said back rest is reclined in upstanding position against a supporting surface, and in an alternate position both said members maybe in a horizontal position for placement upon a hard surface so that two persons may be seated thereupon or one person reclined thereupon, said seat member and said back rest member being each formed of an air tight material and fashioned into a plurality of parallel, spacedapart tubes within which air can be inflated or removed therefrom, and a web being located between said tube, said web each being provided with a plurality of ventilation openings therethrough, said web being wider than a diameter of said openings, said air tubes being inflatable or defiatable by means of an air valve located along an edge of said seat and said back rest.
