Abstract
A dry closet urinal suitable for male or female use and comprising a unitary, plastomeric, hollow body closed at one end and having a neck extending from the other end. The neck terminates in a mouth of ovular shape and the neck is resilient and capable of being deformed manually so as to facilitate use of the urinal where a rigid obstruction, such as a traction or body cast, interferes with normal use of the urinal. Upon release, the neck tends to return to its normal shape and thus provides a body seal.

lNVENTOR.
DELMAS E. COLLINS BY -711Mb, Zea-(41W DRY CLOSET URINAL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a dry closet urinal which is suitable for male or female patients. Dry closet urinals heretofore used have mainly comprised relatively rigid articles, the proper use of which has been restricted whenever a patient is rendered immobile as by tractions or body casts.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention embodies a dry closet urinal which is suitable for both male and female use. In the preferred form, it comprises a hollow plastomeric body which is closed at one end and which has a neck projecting from the other end. The neck projects from the body in the same general direction as the body but is off-set from the centerof the body and is provided with a handle which is also made of plastomeric material and is attached adjacent the connection of the neck to the body. g
The neck is ovular in cross-sectional shape throughout its length and terminates in a mouth. Moreover, the neck is resilient adjacent the mouth, so that it may be compressed manually to permit use where a body cast or traction would tend to prevent the use of rigidly constructed urinal. When released the neck expands and creates a body seal.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings, FIG. 1 is a side elevation of a dry closet urinal embodying the present invention; FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the urinal; and FIG. 3 is a top plan view of the urinal.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated as having a body 10, a neck 11 and a handle 12 which are made of plastomeric material, such as polyethylene. The neck and body are molded as a unitary structure and the handle may also be molded as a unitary structure with the body and neck, or the handle may be molded as a separate structure and then connected to the body in any suitable well known manner.
In the preferred form, the body has a container portion formed by a bottom wall 15, a front wall 16, a back wall 17 and side walls 18 and 19, respectively. The end 20 of the body is joined to the neck which, as shown in FIG. 1, is offset from the mid-portion of the body so as to provide a liquid receptacle whenever the urinal is used in a horizontal position.
The neck of the urinal is resilient adjacent the mouth so that it may be readily, manually compressed as shown by the dot-dash lines 1 1A in FIG. 3, whereby the urinal may be used wherever a rigid structure, such as a leg cast or traction equipment, interferes with normal use of a urinal, and whereby the neck will expand, when released, and form a leg seal. An embossed circle 35 on each side of the neck provides a positive grip during placement of the urinal.
The material of which the body is made is translucent, thus enabling a quick determination to be made of the volume of liquid in the urinal. For such purpose,
suitable gradations and indicia, indicated at 25, are embossed on the front wall of the body as shown in FIG. 1.
The handle 12 is shown as an L-shaped member and as being attached at 30 to the urinal adjacent the point of connection between the body and the neck and adjacent the side 19. Such construction facilitates cleaning of the urinal as well as balance of it while it is being transported.
I claim:
