Abstract
A reinforced trouser pocket, wherein that portion of the interior free-swinging pocket directly adjacent to the exterior trouser material is covered with a second layer of fabric of the exact same design and composition as the exterior trouser material itself, so that, should any hole be found in the exterior trouser material as a result of extended pressure from any item(s) carried in the pocket, a fabric of the exact same design and composition would show through, rather than an odd color cloth on the interior free-swinging pocket as is commonly the case, at the same time assuring double wear and extra security at this pressure point, as compared to a single thickness of cloth in current ordinary pocket construction.

More particularly, the present invention relates to a new and improved method of trouser pocket construction which would not only reinforce the pocket and provide extra security for items carried therein, but which would also provide the additional benefit of preserving the proper exterior appearance of the trouser material until such seam itself to break or the fabric to become so thread-- bare and worn as to develop a hole in it. This often led to gradual enlargement of the hole when not immediately repaired, and oftentimes to subsequent loss of any item(s) carried in the pocket. Many times, pressure from such items carried in the pocket would cause undue wear on the exterior cloth fabric of the trousers, thus leading to a hole in that material itself, through which the underneath cotton fabric of the free-swinging interior pocket, generally white in color, would show, thus causing undue attention to the worn or torn spot in the exterior cloth fabric.
In more recent times, manufacturers have endeavored to develop a method of constructing the interior free-swinging pocket in trousers in such a manner as to provide some means of extra security for items carried in the pocket, thus guarding against possible loss through the development of a hole in the material of the interior free-swinging pocket. Such methods have often taken the form ofa second layer of material sewn over the interior free-swinging pocket, around the sides and bottom, thus constituting in efiect a single pocket composed of two layers of material, one over the other. In such methods, however, the same type fabric was used for both layers; or, if not the same type fabric, at least the same color: generally white, as mentioned above. Thus whenever a hole developed in the exterior trouser material from wear and tear, the same problem of an odd color fabric showing through the hole in the exterior trouser material was still encountered.
With the foregoing in mind, it is therefore an object of the present invention to overcome the difliculties and deficiencies associated with prior art forms of reinforced trouser pockets, and to provide instead a new and improved reinforced trouser pocket.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a reinforced trouser pocket which will ensure extra security for items carried in the interior freeswinging pocket through the implementation of a double layer of interior pocket material.
Another object of the present invention is to provide reinforced trouser pocket which will prevent or alleviate the attraction of undue attention to any hole which would develop in the exterior trouser material around the pocket area by constructing the interior free-swinging pocket in such a manner that the same design fabric of which the exterior trouser material itself is made is also used as the second layer for the interior free-swinging pocket; so that the same design and material would show through any hole, should one develop, until such time as proper repairs can be made.
Other objects, advantages, and salient features of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description which, taken in conjunction with the annexed drawings, discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a frontal sectional view of a reinforced trouser pocket in accordance with the principles of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a lateral sectional view thereof.
In general, the reinforced trouser pocket, in accordance with the principles of the present invention, includes an interior free-swinging pocket, generally designated 1, which is preferably fabricated of a relatively light cotton cloth, as is commonly used for such purposes; and a second reinforcing pocket, generally designated 2, which is specifically fabricated of the same material, in design and composition, as that of the exterior trouser material, generally designated 3; and which also surrounds the interior free-swinging pocket designated 1 on bottom and both sides in such a manner as may be effectively achieved by a manufacturer.
Considering the interior free-swinging pocket designated 1, it can be seen that it is of the same basic construction as other previous'free-swinging trouser pockets; that is, composed of a single piece of relatively light strength, generally cotton, fabric, sewn into the form of a pocket by appropriate seams along the depth and width of the pocket, such seams generally designated 4 and 5 respectively; and thence appended to the exterior trouser material by appropriate seams at the lip of the pocket, generally designated 6, in accordance with a manufacture s design.
Considering the reinforcement of the interior freeswinging trouser pocket, it can be seen that it is of similar construction to that of the above-described interior free-swinging pocket, differing only in the material of which it is made, in design and composition. This can be seen to be of the exact same material, in design and composition, as the exterior trouser material, generally designated 3. This reinforcement is constructed simply as a second layer over the cotton cloth pocket mentioned above, with the appropriate seams necessary to construct it as a secondary pocket covering, and to append it at the same time to the lip of the pocket, designated 6.
After reading the foregoing detailed description, it will be apparent that the objects set forth at the outset of the specification have been successfully achieved by the present invention.
Accordingly, what is claimed is:
1. A reinforced trouser pocket comprising:
an interior free-swinging pocket, fabricated of relatively light strength cloth, as commonly used for ordinary trouser pocket construction, and con- 3 4 structed in the form of a pocket by simple vertical the exterior trouser material to which the interior and horizontal seams along the outer edges of the eeng g POCket is r y adjacent; material, as commonly d ne i di pocket said interior free-swinging pocket and its reinforceconstruction; ment covering to be appended to the exterior said interior free-swinging pocket to be covered on 5 trouser matrial the p of the Pocket,
the bottom and both sides by a second layer of monly donemordmary trouser Pocket matenal; material, of the same design and composition as
