ATOMIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 371,615, dated October 18, 1887.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK JAMES MITCHELL, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful perfumed; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to provide a means for atomizing the. substance, powder, or liquid into the place, and affording facilities for atomizing by the use of force or power originating at any distance desirable from the place to be deodorized or perfumed; second, to do both these things in a cheaper, better, and more lasting way than heretofore, and by means which will not easily get out of repair; third, to keep the powder,- substance, or liquid of a uniform strength. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in -which--- Figure 1 is a view of the entire apparatus, showing the vessel containing liquid to be atomized and its adjuncts and the cylinder of the air forcing or compressing device in section, the air forcing'or compressing device being attached to and operated by a door. Fig. 2v is a perspective view of the disk and pipes of the atomizer.

I also use the disk d, having a slot or cut, e, which disk prevents evaporation, and the slot, together with the funnel f, allows the liquid which is drawn out and not atomized to flow down into the vessela again. The disk performs the very important office of keeping the liquid at a uniform strength by not allowing too much evaporation to weaken it. This evapo- .ration and consequent weakening has been a great defect with othcr deviccs for disinfecting and perfuming where the whole surface of the liquid has been exposed to the air.
The funnel f has a flange, m, and by means of the removable screw w, I screw the flange of the funnel down onto the disk e, thus keepiug the flange tightly in place, and also presslug the disk down closely to prcvent evapora-- This screw works in the screw-thread in the neck gv of the vessel a. The screw is made short enough so that its upper L end will be below the opening a of the funnel.
I prefer to use this screw insteadof making the screw a part of the funnel itself, so that the hole a is-always on the side nearest the tube 0, which is more convenient, and which ;I could "i not depend upon ifI were to screw down the funu el tightly by ascrcw which were part of itself.
