2 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures APPARATUS FOR COATING BUILDING WALL WITH FOAM STATEMENT OF INVENTION This invention relates to buildings and, more particularly, to a process of building a house and of repairing old houses.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the invention to provide an improved process of building a house.
Another object is to provide an improved process of building an improved house that is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and efficient to use.
Another object is to provide an improved structure and apparatus for repairing old houses.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a cross sectional view of a house according to the invention.
FIG. 1A is a view similar to FIG. 1 showing a window in the wall of a house.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view of a fastening means for the form and fastener.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the form for supporting on the wall.
FIG. 4 is a top view of a wedge for attaching the form to the wall.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Now with more particular reference to the drawings, a house having a wall is shown. The wall may be made of brick, concrete, poured concrete blocks, cinder blocks or other suitable material, frame construction with a sheet of plywood or other material used and the foam may be attached to the outside surface of the wall or it could be made of any other suitable material.
When the foam is placed on the inside, the outside surface ll of the blocks or plywood may be painted, or have a suitable sheet such as vinyl or other plastic adhered to it or finished to the taste of the builder.
The floor 12 may be of poured concrete poured on the ground, or of any other suitable material. A covering 13 of foam material can be placed over the floor or a sheet of plywood may be used and the entire floor covered with carpet, linoleum or other floor covering material.
A roof may be used, made up of conventional rafters 14, covered with a sheet of metal or plywood 16. A coating 15 of rigid urethane foam, one-fourth inch to 2 inches in thickness, may be sprayed over the entire top of the roof.
The forms 17 will then be attached to the walls of the building either to the inside or outside. The forms 17 may be made of plywood or other suitable sheets of rigid material. A Tedlar (Dupont trademark) material 30 noted for its durability and weathering qualities may be laid over the forms. The forms may be provided with a surface simulating a structural material like stone, like brick,or wood grain to give the finished foam the appearance of wood, brick or stone. The forms may be of a convenient size for handling. For example, they ma be 8 feet by 4 feet and three-fourths inch thick.
he forms 1 WI" be held at a specific spacing from the wall by sleeves 18. Sleeves 18 may be made of pipe nipples threaded at their outer end at 20 and thus screwed into form 17. The nails 21 will be hardened so they can be driven into concrete or masonry. Slotted wedges 22 will be driven between the forms 17 and the heads 23 of the nails. Thus the forms 17 will be held at a specific spacing from the wall. A suitable releaser material such as a sheet of polyethylene may be laid over the forms to prevent adhesion of the foam to the form. Tubes 24-extend through the plywood and may be connected to a suitable dispenser so that the foam material may be evenly distributed in the space between the walls and the form. Thus the foam will adhere to the wall but will not adhere to the form. A manifold 31 is attached to the form and tubes 24 extend through spaced'holes in the form to distribute the foam evenly between the wall and the form. A drop ceiling 26 may be supported above the floor to complete the construction. The wheel 30 is supported on the form 17 by support 32. The form 17 may be moved about to new locations by tilting it to horizontal position so that the wheel 30 rests on the floor and the form may be wheeled about the floor 13 like a wheelbarrow, the operator grasping the upper end of the form when it is in the horizontal position. The form may then be moved to the new position and supported as shown in FIGS. 1 and 1A.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
l. A form for covering a wall with urethane foam material comprising a relatively rigid sheet of material,
spacers attached to said sheet and adapted to engage said wall, fasteners adapted to extend through said sheet and through said spacers and to engage said wall, means for attaching said fasteners to said sheet whereby said sheet is supported at a specific distance from said wall,
spaced openings through said sheet for foam material to be dispensed to said space,
tubes are connected to said sheet around said openings, and means on said tubes to connect a source of foaming material to said tubes,
said spacers comprise threaded pipe nipples, said pipe nipples threadably engaging holes in said sheets,
and headed nails adapted to be driven into a wall and extend through said pipe nipples,
and wedge-shaped members each having a slot adapted to receive said nails in said slots with said heads overlying said wedges whereby said sheets are held to said wall.
2. The form recited in claim 1 wherein said form has a wheel attached to the inside surface whereby said form may be transported when said form is transported in a generally vertical position.
Claims (2)
1. A form for covering a wall with urethane foam material comprising a relatively rigid sheet of material, spacers attached to said sheet and adapted to engage said wall, fasteners adapted to extend through said sheet and through said spacers and to engage said wall, means for attaching said fasteners to said sheet whereby said sheet is supported at a specific distance from said wall, spaced openings through said sheet for foam material to be dispensed to said space, tubes are connected to said sheet around said openings, and means on said tubes to connect a source of foaming material to said tubes, said spacers comprise threaded pipe nipples, said pipe nipples threadably engaging holes in said sheets, and headed nails adapted to be driven into a wall and extend through said pipe nipples, and wedge-shaped members each having a slot adapted to receive said nails in said slots with said heads overlying said wedges whereby said sheets are held to said wall.
2. The form recited in claim 1 wherein said form has a wheel attached to the inside surface whereby said form may be transported when said form is transported in a generally vertical position.
