Abstract

A novelty device which simulates a pair of panties is designed to fit invertedly in the breast pocket so as to simulate a handkerchief. The bottoms of the leg portions are bordered preferably in lace with the two leg portions slightly separated to simulate two panel portions of a hanky. The item is used for its amusing shock value when it is removed from the pocket and the viewer can then see it is a small pair of pants.

8 Claims, 4 Drawing Figures NOVELTY POCKET ITEM BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a novelty item to be worn in the pocket with a portion exposed and particularly to a pair of small panties adapted to be inserted into the breast pocket with a portion of the leg sections exposed.

Pocket devices of the type concerned with in this invention are described in U.S. Pat. Nos. 1,361,384; 1,785,962; 2,100,368 and 3,174,157. U.S. Pat. No. 1,361,384 illustrates a pocket ornament wherein four leaf like panels can be exposed above the pocket one at a time and which are preferrably of different colors, the exposed panels being held in a pocket by a central hub. A handkerchief with exposed projections is shown in U.S. Pat. No. 1,785,962 wherein angular portions are disposed at the end of a panel to simulate the foldings of a handkerchief. In U.S. Pat. No. 2,100,368 a handkerchief simulation is shown wherein a four-paneled member with angular edges is provided to be folded so that one of the angular portions is exposed above the upper edge of a pocket while the remaining portions are somewhat rectangular in configuration and are seated in the pocket. A double panel type pocket device is described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,174,157 wherein display portions are held by two flaps with an intermediate envelope member which results in the display of various colors of flaps. The prior art nowhere teaches a novelty device wherein the portion of an item which is a miniature simulation is exposed to simulate a handkerchief. Neither is there available any item which while simulating a handkerchief by being exposed from a pocket is actually another item which when completely removed from the pocket is a conversation piece because of its size and type of garment.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a novelty item which is worn as a handkerchief but is in actuality something else. It is another object of this invention to provide a novelty item which utilizes to advantage a portion of the item itself to give the impression of being another item when it is only partially exposed. It is still another object of the present invention to provide a novelty handkerchief which is fabricated in the form of a pair of panties which can be manufactured in an easy manner. It is yet another object of this invention to provide a novelty pocket item which by its form and construction adapts itself to being inserted and retained in most any size pocket.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The foregoing objects are accomplished by the present novelty device which is in the form of a miniature pair of panties with lace borders around the edges of the legs. The leg portions are of a width to extend substantially across a garment pocket with the leg portions and the seat portion of the pants of a length to extend substantially into the pocket to expose the border and the small section of the leg section portions. In a preferred manner, the leg portions are sewn with an inner seam and the seam is provided from the crotch to the waistband portion of the pants so as to aid in easy folding of the pants to simulate a handkerchief.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Proceeding to a detailed description of the present invention, the novelty pocket item generally 10 is shown in conjunction with a mans suitcoat 11 with the normal garment'breast pocket 12. As shown in FIG. 2, two

To aid in folding the leg portions in an overlapping manner as shown in FIG. 3, the seat portion 17 is joined together by stitching 35 which extends from the crotch 25 up to the peripheral waistband 30. The leg portions are sewn together with innerseams as shown at 37 and 38 for

DESCRIPTION OF AN ALTERNATIVE EMBODIMENT FIG. 4 represents an alternative novelty device and is indicated generally by the number 110. It is similar to that disclosed in FIGS. 1 3 with the exception that it has a

OPERATION A better understanding of the advantages of novelty pocket device will be had by a description of its usage. The novelty pants 10 will be folded as shown in FlG. 3 and placed in pocket 12 in the manner shown in FIG. 1 with the lace borders 21 and extended and a small portion 24 of leg portion 16. This in effect will present four lace edges above the pocket 12. During the normal course of conversation, the person having the novelty device 10 in his pocket, will pull it from pocket 12 as one would a handkerchief and with the novelty device 10 fully displayed as shown in FlG. 2 it will cause surprise and become a conversation piece. The operation of the embodiment shown in FIG. 4 will of course be the same as previously described.

The material for forming the novelty device 10 is nylonand preferrably of white color. Other plastic fiber materials whether polyester, rayon, or of the acetate type could be substituted as well as natural cotton, silk or wool. Various colors can also be used. While lace or

it will thus be seen that to the present invention there is now provided a novelty device which simulates a handkerchief when placed in a pocket, yet when withdrawn from the pocket is actually a small pair of pants. The novelty device is manufactured at an inexpensive manner requiring a minimum amount of sewing and material. The novelty item is fabricated in such a manner that it is easily folded for maximum effect when placed in a pocket to give the distinct impression that it is a normal handkerchief.

The foregoing invention can now be practiced by those skilled in the art. Such skilled persons will know that the invention is not necessarily restricted to the particular embodiments as presented herein. The scope of the invention is to be defined by the terms of the following claims as given meaning by the preceding description.

We claim:

1. A novelty device simulating a pair of short pants and adapted to be placed in a usual adult garment pocket comprising two leg portions forming said pants and joined by a seat portion, a border simulating a normal handkerchief edge extending transversely across at least one of said leg portions at its opening away from said seat portion, said leg portions together being of a width to extend substantially across said garment pocket, said leg portions and said seat portion being of a length to extend substantially into said pocket to ex pose said border and a small secton of said leg portions.

2. The novelty device as defined in claim 1 wherein said border is disposed around the end of both leg portions.

3. The novelty device as defined in claim 2 wherein said border is of a lace design.

4. The novelty device as defined in claim 1 wherein said leg portions extend from said seat portion substantially the same distance as the length of said seat portion.

5. The novelty device as defined in claim 1 wherein said seat portion includes a crotch and seat portion is joined by stitching from said crotch to the uppermost region of said pants to aid in the overlapping of said leg portions.

6. The novelty device as defined in claim 1 wherein the uppermost region of said seat portion includes peripheral stitching to simulate a waistband.

7. The novelty device as defined in claim 5 wherein said leg portions are sewn with an innerseam on both leg portions and extending to the crotch.

8. The novelty device as defined in claim 1 wherein said pants are formed of a nylon material.

Claims

1. A novelty device simulating a pair of short pants and adapted to be placed in a usual adult garment pocket comprising two leg portions forming said pants and joined by a seat portion, a border simulating a normal handkerchief edge extending transversely across at least one of said leg portions at its opening away from said seat portion, said leg portions together being of a width to extend substantially across said garment pocket, said leg portions and said seat portion being of a length to extend substantially into said pocket to expose said border and a small secton of said leg portions.
