INVENTORS. PHILIP VII. LEWIS PETER C. COLLURA I5 ATTORNEYS.
SUPPORT CARD FOR DISPOSABLE UNDERGARMENTS THE PRIOR ART The known prior art is best exemplified in the following patents, their class and subclass being also noted:
l-leym an A d Nov. 19, I929 206/78 July 27, I937 229/71 Mar. 24, I953 206/46 Gelaz Sept. 15, I959 206/46 Shenker ge g ilgg 25 Rouder L 2 20 7 Murray a 3L July 2, I968 206/65 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a plan view of a support card according to the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing the support card in a holding jig for the stiffening thereof during loading with an undergarment;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing a garment loaded on the support card, which is folded to a position for loading into a container; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective view showing the support card with a number of disposable undergarments loaded thereon, and being inserted into a container. The improved support card according to the present invention is referred to by the reference numeral and comprises a first panel element 11 and a second panel 12, these extending from a central panel and foldably connected to central panel 15 along respective fold lines 13 and 14. The ends offold lines 13 and 14 converge toward each other along converging portions 16 to meet at an apex point 17 at the edges of the blank 10.
The first panel element 11 is essentially triangular in configuration with converging sloping lines 18 extending from the respective spices 17, the two sloping lines 18 meeting along a generally curved line 20.
Second panel element 12 is defined by a panel edge 19 spaced from the score line 14 and parallel thereto opposed curved edges 21 intersecting score line 14 and panel edge 19.
The second panel element 12 is provided with a protuberance 22 at each side thereof, adjacent score line 14 each protuberance 22 being defined by one of the converging score lines 16 at the ends of the score line 14 and byan edge 23 coextensive with the curved line 21 and spaced from such converging score line 16.
The blank 10 thus far described is adapted to be stiffened during loading thereof with an undergarment, and is held for loading in a jig A having a pair of closely spaced vertical guides VG extending upward therefrom, guides VG being spaced according to the thickness of the stock of the blank 10. Each has a generally curved cross section defined by a curved baseline 25, and has a one-half oval shape viewed in elevation.
The so-stiffened blank 10 is adapted to be loaded with an undergarment UG having a waist portion WP and at waist portion opening WOPO, and closed in the lower end thereof at a groin portion G flanked by leg openings 0. First panel element 11 is receivable through the waist portion WP and is adapted to support garment UG at the groin portion G thereof. In the loading of blank 10 a waist portion WP moves on to the second panel element 12 to be held thereat in flat position. Groin portion G is also held in flat condition on the panel element II.
The protuberances 22 extending into each side of the second panel element 12 extend through the leg openings and lock waist portion WP to the second panel element 12, and thereby prevent the unintended removal of the garment from the card.
The garments UG are of the disposable type to be disposed of after one wearing, and the blank 10 is adapted to be loaded with a number of such garments. By reason of the provision of the central panel 15, the plurality of garments may be folded as seen in FIG. 3 without bulging at the fold thereof. The first panel element 11 with the garments loaded thereon is folded into a position of overlying relationship with respect to the second panel element 12. After being folded in the manner described, the folded blank 10 with the garments loaded thereon may be inserted into an outer container C for shipment. The precise details of outer container C form no part of the present invention.
We claim:
