Abstract

A TOY PLAY DEVICE IN THE FORM OF A SPOKED WHEEL HAVING APERTURES FORMED IN THE SPOKES AND BELLS PRESSED INTO THE APERTURES TO PROVIDE A MUSICAL SOUND AS THE WHEEL IS PROPELLED ALONG THE GROUND BY A STICK HAVING A FLATTENED PORTION TO START THE WHEEL ROLLING DOWN THE STICK AND A CROSS-MEMBER AT ITS LOWER END TO GUIDE THE WHEEL.

Cl. 46-114 ll lClairn ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to toys and more particularly to a hoop of a nominal size of approximately inches in diameter and an arm provided with a cross bar at its lower extremity to propel the hoop. The hoop is provided with spokes and each spoke is formed with a plurality of perforations through which are pressed in noise making devices such as small bells.

The arm to rotate the hoop is formed of a shaped hand grip which telescopes into a body and is secured to a desired position by means of a set screw or other well known method. Midway down its length, the arm is flattened and a cross member is secured at its lowest extremity, as may be seen in the accompanying drawing, the cross arm is set at right angles to the body and extends an equal amount on each side thereof.

A rubber thread is formed around the wheel or hoop so that the said wheel will easily and quickly respond when the user intends to make a sharp turn.

The main object of the invention is therefore the provision of a toy to be used by both boys and girls which will give countless hours of pleasure and is easy to operate and quickly mastered.

Another important object is the provision of an arm or propeller to push a wheel or hoop.

Still another object is the provision of an adjustable hand grip to satisfy the needs of taller and shorter users.

Still another object is the provision of a flat portion on said propeller on which the wheel is set and released to start said wheel in motion after which it is controlled entirely by said propeller.

Still another object is the provision of spokes on said wheel, said spokes provided with a plurality of apertures and a noise making device, such as a bell, inserted in each perforation. By providing bells of different tones, it is possible to obtain a very harmonious sound when the device is in motion.

With these and other objects in view that may appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel arrangement of cooperating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and in which:

Referring more in detail to the drawing, in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts EfillfiZl Patented Uct. l2, TQTT throughout the several views, it will be seen the invention comprises a disc Wheel 5 provided with a rubber tread 6. The wheel is formed with a plurality of spokes 7 and each spoke is formed with apertures 8 within which are pressed sound making devices, such as bells or the like. By arranging bells of different tones, it is possible to obtain a very pleasant and harmonious sound when the wheel is in motion. As shown, the disc wheel has an integral annular portion to which the four spokes 7 are integrally joined, said spokes radiating from a hub and being integral therewith so that the wheel is an integral unit.

To push the wheel along the ground, the invention provides an arm referred to herein as a propeller. The said propeller comprises a hand grip 9 telescopically adjustable to a longitudinal body and secured in position by means of a set screw 10. The body 11 is of tubular form at its upper extremity and is flattened at 12 and terminates in a cross member 13 which serves to push the wheel 5 and control the turns desired by the user. The cross member is secured in position by any well known method of fastening two members together.

In operation, the wheel is placed on the flat portion of the handle and is released so that it rolls down and then it is pushed along by means of the handle. By manipulating the cross member it is possible, after a little practice to roll the wheel in a perfectly straight line or make either right or left hand turns at will. The harmonious sound made by the bells is pleasant to hear and will entice children to use the device for long periods of time.

It is believed that the construction and advantages of the invention have been fully set forth and that further detailed description is not required.

While a preferred embodiment has been disclosed, it is to be understood that minor modifications may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

I claim:

1. A trundle toy comprising in combination a wheel, said wheel including a unitary disc body having an integral continuous annular ring forming the periphery of the wheel, plural circumferentially spaced spokes integrally joined to said ring and projecting radially inwardly thereof, all of said spokes being integrally joined at the center of the disc body to form an integral hub portion thereon, said spokes each having radially spaced openings formed therethrough transversely of the disc body including a single opening at the center of the disc body common to all of said spokes, a noise producing element firmly mounted within each of said openings and producing noise during movement of the wheel, a tread element of resilient material covering the periphery of the disc body, and a propelling and manipulating handle for said wheel constructed separately therefrom.
