Cl. 283-56 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates generally to an advertising sheet with removable coupons and postal cards, which may be inserted into a magazine and carried therewith or between inner and outer sections of newspapers, or folded inside a section of a newspaper. The sheet of paper is rectangular and has a main advertising front face and back and folded slightly off-center, and the larger section, or central section, has attached thereto by perforated lines a plurality of tabs consisting of coupons or return address postal cards or the like.

This invention relates to an advertising sheet having a main section and a lesser section which may be carried between pages of magazines or sections of newspapers and includes removable coupon tabs and postal cards temporarily secured to one edge of the central section of the insert.

Heretofore, with inserts of this character, they have been stuffed between inner and outer newspaper sections by apparatus, so as to frictionally hold the insert in the sections. Some such structures or inserts have included a removable return postal card or the like as a part of the main body of the insert, but none of them have included coupons or postal cards removably attached to a side section of the insert, for readily removal therefrom, and which, when the newspaper or magazine is opened, will unfold the insert so that the coupons will assume various positions to attract attention of the reader.

It is, therefore, the principal object of the present invention to provide an advertising insert sheet carrying advertising on the front and back faces thereof and which includes a fold line slightly off-center thereof, forming a center main section and a smaller or lesser section and a fold-over portion consisting of a plurality of detachable coupons or postal cards; to provide perforations between the coupons and the main section of the insert so that the coupons and postal cards will be readily removable from the main section; to provide the coupons disengaged from each other so that they will move or wave when the insert is unfolded to attract attention and be readily viewable by the reader; and to provide a device of this character simple and eflicient in operation.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein are set forth by way of illustration and example certain embodiments of this invention.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the advertising insert in a magazine, with the coupons attached thereto.

FIG. 2 is a view showing the insert in folded relation with the coupons and postal card folded over the main section and underneath the lesser section.

FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 33, FIG. 2.

FIG. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the insert, with parts of the lesser section broken away and part of one of the coupons broken away to better illustrate the invention.

Referring more in detail to the drawings:

1 designates an advertising sheet generally of rectangular shape, having a front face 2 and a back face 3, top and bottom edges 4 and 5, and side edges 6 and 7. Extending transversely across the rectangular sheet is a fold line 8, and such fold line is spaced inwardly from the side edge 6 a lesser distance than the perforated line 9 extending transversely across the rectangular sheet and spaced inwardly from the side edge 7. The fold line 8 and perforated line 9 form a main central section 10, and the fold line 8 to the edge 6 forms a lesser section 11.

Attached to the side edge of the main sheet 10 by the perforation line 9 are a plurality of tabs in the form of coupons, as indicated at 12 and 13, and return postal cards or the like as indicated at 14 and 15. The coupons and postal cards are separated by slits 16, 17 and 18.

Both the main section 10 and lesser section 11 of the front face 2 of the sheet provide space for advertising as indicated, and also the back of the lesser section as shown at 19. It also provides for advertising on the back of the main section (not shown).

The tabs or extensions 12 and 13 are designated coupons and it will be obvious that the space on either side of the coupon tabs is for information so that when torn from the main section 10 and presented to a store or other place of business is worth money to the bearer.

The tabs 14 and 15 are designated as a postal card or the like, which may be removed from the main section on the perforated line 9 and on one face is stated the business reply card. It also contains the notice that postage will be paid by the recipient of the card, and on the back side is a place for the name and address of the sender and an order space, or data requested by the advertiser addressee. It will be obvious that any form of information may be supplied on the postal card and it is to be recognized that the paper of the postal cards must be of a weight that is capable of being sent in the mail. Actually, it is preferable that the entire rectangular sheet be of heavier weight than the ordinary newspaper or magazine paper, although this is not absolutely necessary so long as the postal cards are of suflicient weight to be sent without being enclosed in an envelope, i.e., paper stock of weight of lbs. or greater.

In FIG. 1 is illustrated the advertising sheet shown attached to a magazine 20 between pages thereof by fasteners as indicated at 21. As shown, the sheet is of lesser width than the magazine pages and the coupons or return cards when folded are within the outer edges of the magazine. However, the coupons when folded outwardly extend over the side edge 22 of the magazine.

The purpose of having the tabs 12, 13, 14 and 15 attached to the side edge 23 of the main sheet 10 is to attract attention of the reader of the magazine, and particularly the advertising sheet. When the reader first receives the magazine with the insert therein, it will be in the form shown in FIG. 4 of the drawings, and upon opening the lesser sheet 11 and the tabs 12, 13, 14 and 15, they will attract attention of the reader by the fact that they are not connected together and will take various forms, as shown in FIG. 1, and particularly move without actually the reader having hold thereof. Actually, they will wave when the main sheet 10 is moved, thus further attracting attention of the reader.

It will also be obvious that the advertising insert sheet may be used in connection with sections of newspapers by placing the same between the sections or in the fold of a single section, and the friction thereof holding the insert in place.

It will further be obvious that my advertising sheet may be used separately from a newspaper or magazine as a separate mailing piece.

If desired, the tabs may be connected together at their outer edges by perforations as shown at 24 (FIG. 4)

instead of having the slits 16, 17 and 18 extend to the edge 7. Upon tearing the perforations 24, the tabs will separate and assume various positions.

It is to be understood that while certain forms of this invention have been illustrated and described, it is not to be limited to the specific form or arrangement of parts herein described and shown except insofar as such limitations are included in the claims.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A single sheet advertising insert comprising:

(a) a generally rectangular sheet having a perforated line extending at least partially along one edge thereof, and

(b) a plurality of tabs secured respectively by one edge thereof to said sheet along said perforated line, said tabs being foldable over said sheet,

(c) said tabs being substantially disconnected from each other,

(d) whereby said tabs easily assume different rotational positions about said perforated line upon being completely disconnected from each other.

2. A single sheet advertising insert adapted when folded to be placed between pages of a magazine or the like,

(a) said sheet being of generally rectangular shape and having end edges,

(b) a fold line transversely of said sheet spaced from one end edge and a perforated line parallel with said fold line and spaced therefrom,

(c) said fold line and said perforated line forming a first section and a second section on said sheet and having front and back portions containing advertising messages thereon, and

(d) a plurality of tabs secured to the other end edge of said sheet by said perforated line and having printed information thereon, said tabs being separate from each other and foldable on said perforated line over at least one of said sections, and upon unfolding said sheet the tabs will assume different positions to attract attention of the reader.

3. The advertising insert as set forth in claim 2 including means for securing same between pages of said magazine.
