No. 488,604 Claims priority, Switzerland, July 19, 1965, 10,080/ 65 Int. Cl. E04c 3/40; E06b I/l8 U.S. Cl. 52-720 1 Claim ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a frame profile of rectangular cross-section for doors, windows and glass walls, in which two identical longitudinal grooves are arranged on each of two opposite sides symmetrically to the two longitudinal median planes.
In known profiles of this type, the grooves are used for the insertion of support strips for glass panels or for other supporting or abutment elements.
The profile according to the present invention is characterised in that the width of the web constituting the external ank of each groove is at the most equal to the width of the groove. As a result of this, two or more proles which are oiTset from each other in the direction of the two planes of symmetry can be coupled together without special attachment elements by fitting a web of one prole into a groove of the other profile. The profiles provided by the present invention are preferably hollow. To increase the versatility of the prole, the sides of the groove should be continuous with a concave recess which in turn is continuous with the base of the groove which advantageously is also concave on the outer surface.
One embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing which shows a cross-section through a plurality of proles connected to form a wall combination.
The combination illustrated, which comprises six identical hollow profiles A, B, C, D, E, F, constitutes a wall intersection. The relevant features will be described in more detail below with reference to the profile A.
The hollow prole is rectangular in cross-section. Two identical longitudinal grooves 1 are arranged on each of two opposite longitudinal sides symmetrically to the two planes of symmetry I-I and II-Il.
Each side 2 of a groove is continuous with a curved recess 3 which is continuous with the base 4 of the groove, which is concave to the outside. The width b1 of the hollow webs 5 which form the external flanks of the four grooves is less than the width b2 of the groove. Consequently, the profiles B and D adjacent to the profile A,
37,498,017 Patented Mar. 3, 1970 rice which are offset from the profile A in the direction of the two planes of symmetry I-I and II-II, can be coupled together without additional attachment means by fitting the hollow web 5 of the profile A into the adjacent groove 1 of the profile B and of the profile D respectively, provided only that the width b1 of the hollow web 5 is not greater than the width b2 of the groove.
The hollow prole C is coupled to the profiles B and D in a manner analogous to the prole A so that the four profiles are coupled together in the form of a cross without special attachment means. The outermost grooves of the profiles are left free and can be used for securing various structural parts as indicated by way of example in the drawing. In this case, a glass pane 6 is inserted into one of the free grooves of profile C and attached therein by means of elastically yielding supports 7 which engage in the recesses 3.
The proiiles E and F are hingedly connected to the profiles B and D respectively, each by means of a door hinge plate 8 provided with projections engaging each in a groove of the proles B, E and D, F respectively. These grooves may also be used for securing elastically yielding stops 9 provided in a profile B or D, which stops co-operate with similar stops l10 inserted `in the free groove of the opposite prole E or F respectively.
Furthermore, in the profile E provided for a door frame there is inserted a cylindrical lock 11 the cylindrical part 12 of which is inserted between the two opposite spines 13 of the grooves 1 while the lock case is inserted in the central grooves of the profile E, which are open to the inside.
What I claim is:
1. A frame prole of rectangular cross-section for doors, windows and glass walls comprising a hollow frame member provided with two identical longitudinal grooves arranged in each of two opposite sides of the frame member symmetrically to the two longitudinal median planes, the frame having hollow webs as external anks, and the width of the hollow webs forming the external flanks of the four grooves being at the most equal to the width of the groove, the sides of the grooves are continuous with a concave recess which continues into the base of the groove.
