No. 683,335, filed Nov. 15, 1967.

It is the purpose of this invention to condition the skin and beard for shaving by the moistening and softening action of any preferred lotion, emollient, or similar preparation customarily used by the individual.

A porous, absorbent material is provided, which is held in position on a plane with or slightly above the cutting heads of the shaver so as to form a partial or complete border therearound. If desired, in cases where the skin is excessively dry or tender, or if the beard is heavy, lotion may be applied by passing the shaver With the moistened absorbent material lightly across the face and neck prior to starting the motor in the shaver. Then the motor is turned on and the moistening action of the absorbent material continues simultaneously with the cutting of the beard, as the absorbent material and the cutting heads are passed across the skin.

The lotion serves not only to moisten and lubricate the skin and heard, but it also enables a lower temperature to be maintained as the cutting heads do not give the sensation of heat when moist as they do in dry use.

Additionally, the absorbent material, being both moist and porous, picks up small particles of the beard as they are cut off and retains some of them in its pores, thus preventing their being carried back and forth, with further cutting action on them as the shaving continues.

In order to achieve side use for this applicator, a structure has been developed which provides a flexible channeled member having an adhesive backing for attachment thereof to the housing of an electric shaver of any configuration. This material may be used either to surround the head of the electric shaver completely or in segments encompassing portions of the top of the housing.

This invention consists of the novel features, construction, combination and arrangement of parts shown herein,

FIGURE 1 shows the channeled structure of the within invention applied upon a segment of the periphery of an electric shaver housing;

FIGURE 2 shows the absorbent material in said channeled structure; and

FIGURE 3 is a cross-section of the channeled structure and the absorbent material retained therein.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the channeled structure 10 is applied to an electric shaver housing 5 in such a position that the absorbent material 12 is substantially on a plane with, or slightly above, the cutting heads of the shaver.

FIGURE 3, being in cross-section, shows channeled structure 10 and adhesive backing 11, with absorbent material 12 made of sponge rubber or a like porous, resilient material retained in a slidable member 13 for facilitating insertion of said absorbent material into the channel of structure 10.

Among the advantages of this structure is the ability to remove the absorbent material for cleansing, between uses of the shaver, without the necessity for placing the shaver itself into a bowl of water or under a stream of running water, which might cause damage to the electric motor. Furthermore, the absorbent material may be readily replaced when it becomes worn, without the necessity of removing and replacing the channeled structure, until the latter itself becomes Worn or distorted from continued use.

What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. An electric razor, a flexible channel, a flexible, slidable member retained therein, and an absorbent member disposed in said slidable member having a portion projecting outwardly of the channel, and adhesive means securing the channel to the razor in position to coact with the blades of the razor.
