LABEL FOR HOLDING PACKING SLIPS Filed Dec. 12, 1966 INVENTORS, RICHARD wuazaune & E fiVID OKEON 3,436,854 LABEL FOR HGLDING PACKING SLIPS Richard Wurzburg, 5503 Gwynne Road 38117, and David M. Okeon, 1550 North Parkway, Apt. 312 38112, both of Memphis, Tenn.
Filed Dec. 12, 1966, Ser. No. 600,945 Int. Cl. G09f 3/18 US. Cl. 40-10 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers for material lists, and more particularly to a label for holding packing slips, in which there is provided a package slip holding means with pressure sensitive holding means included, and additional packing slip holding means included.
There have been heretofore numerous devices for holding material lists and packing slips against a container to identify the contents therein, but these prior holders have relied upon permanent adhesive means, and removal of the list therefrom has been tedius and laborious, and often the packing slips contained by these prior holding means have been damaged or torn during the process of removal.
The device of the present invention comprises a packing slip holding means of substantially envelope-like configuration provided with pressure sensitive adhesive means for attachment to a shipping container with a pocket formed therein for the containment of a packing slip, and tab means for the easy removal of the holder from the shipping container. The holder is additionally provided with an internally disposed adhesive portion for the positioned retention therein of the folded packing slip or material list.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide holding means for packing slips for attachment to containers in transit.
Another object of the present invention is to provide easily removable packing slip holding means.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an envelope-like holder for material lists with suitable instructions thereon for the removal of the contents therein.
Another object of the present invention is to provide means within an envelope-like holder for the temporary positioning and retention therein of a packing slip; and
A further object of the present invention is to generally improve the efiiciency, design and construction of holders for packing slips.
The means by which the foregoing and other objects of the present invention are accomplished and the manner of their accomplishment will be readily understood from the following specification upon reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is an inverted plan view of the device of the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the device of FIG. 1 as taken on the line IIII of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a lateral cross-sectional view of the device of FIG. 1 as taken on the line III-III of FIG. 1; and
atent fi ice 3,436,854 Patented Apr. 8, 1969 FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the device of FIG. 1 attached to a shipping container with parts removed for purposes of illustration.
Referring now to the drawings in which the various parts are indicated by numerals, the device of the present invention comprises a multi-layered label .11 of substantially rectangular configuration provided with a base panel of preferably enamelled paper 13, an imperforate top label sheet 15 of a suitably enamelled paper or metallic foil, coextensive in length and breadth with the base sheet 13, and a layer of substantially tacky, pressure sensitive adhesive 17 affixed to the undersurface of the top panels and interposed between the ibase sheet .13 and the imperforate top panel 15.
The base panel comprises an elongated grip-tab portion 19 positioned at one end of the base panel and c0extensive in length therewith, a substantially rectangularly shaped peripheral frame provided with a pair of spaced longitudinally substantially parallel legs 21, 22, and a pair of transverse somewhat shorter legs 23, 24 in substantially integral attachment with the outer ends of the longitudinal legs 21, 22. The base panel 13 further comprises a central portion 25 described within the area of the frame defined by the longitudinal legs 21, 22 and the shorter transverse legs 23, 24, and a removable disc 27 or other suitable removable portion or means, disposed substantially centrally in the central portion 25.
In the use of the device the packing slip S is suitably folded into a substantially rectangular configuration somewhat smaller than the rectangular area defined by the central portion 25. The detachable portion 27 is removed from the adhesive layer 17 to expose the adhesive therebelow and the packing slip S is afiixed thereagains-t to adhesively maintain the folded packing slip in a substantially unshiftable position adjacent the central portion 25. The frame comprising the integrally attached legs 21, 22, 23, 24 is removed from the adhesive layer 17 exposing the adhesive material thereunder aflixed to the top label sheet 15. The label 11 may thus be adhesively attached to a desired shipping container C by pressing the adhesive exposed by the removal of the frame against the container C.
The label 11 may be removed tainer C for access to the packing slip S enclosed therein by gripping the elongated tab 19 and lifting the tab 19 and the integrally attached label sheet 15 away from the container C to which it has been detachably adhesively affixed.
The label 15 may be imprinted with suitable instructional information or similar legend.
We claim:
1. A label device providing an information-receiving label and for holding a thin object as a packing slip, said label device comprising (A) an external label sheet said label sheet being (1) irnperforate and (2) light-impervious;
(B) an inner base panel 1) of area lesser than the area of said label sheet,
(2) positioned substantially over the central section of said lalbel sheet,
(3) peripheral edge portions of said label sheet projecting and being exposed beyond the periphery of said base panel;
(C) a layer of tacky adhesive (1) adhering to the internal surface of said label sheet,
(2) extending throughout the area of said label sheet including said central section and said peripheral edge portions,
from the shipping confor receiving information,
(3) said inner base panel (a) adhered to said adhesive layer and being attached to said label device thereby, and (b) shielding the central section of said adhesive layer from accidental contact with other objects,
(D) a peripheral open frame (1) surrounding and substantially in contact with the periphery of said inner base panel,
(2) covering the adhesive of said peripheral edge portions, and removably adhering to said peripheral edge portions,
(3) said frame and said inner base panel forming base means having an area substantially equal to the area of said label sheet,
(4) removal of said peripheral frame exposing the adhesive of said peripheral edge portions for attachment of said label device to a carton; and
(E) an access opening (1) formed substantially centrally through said inner base panel,
(2) exposing a minor portion of said adhesive layer,
(3)a said packing slip positioned over said inner base panel and contacting the portion of said adhesive layer exposed through said access opening attaching said packing slip against movement relative to said inner base panel;
whereby to provide a label device holding and carrying said packing slip when said device is attached to said carton.
2. A label device in accordance with claim 1, in which said inner base panel includes means detachably connected to said panel and covering said access opening, removal of said detachable means exposing a portion of said adhesive layer through said access opening.
3. A label device in accordance with claim 1, which includes an elongated ta b attached to said device for detachment of said label device from the carton to provide for access to and removal of said packing slip from said label device.
