said Taylor assignor to said Steinfeld Filed Nov. 29, 1965, Ser. No. 510,210 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-87) This invention relates to an improved holder device for neckties or like article of clothing especially constructed and arranged for mounting on a clothes hanger having a suit of clothing thereon.

It would be highly convenient to be able to hang an appropriate necktie or neckties on the same clothes hanger as a particular suit of clothing so that when the person dons the suit of clothing, he has available within convenient reach a selection of a tie for wearing with that suit. This is highly desirable both during traveling and at home because it would eliminate the need to search out an appropriate tie for a particular suit, for instance, from a remotely placed rack of ties on which the neckties are heterogeneously arranged. Thus, it is contemplated that by means of the invention, for instance, a desirable color or pattern of tie or ties for a particular brown suit would be carried directly on the clothes hanger on which the brown suit is hung. A different color or pattern of suit would have other ties of appropriate combination therewith carried with the suit on the same hanger. Considering that most men have a plurality of suits, usually of different colors and patterns, it thus would be very convenient to be able to hang with each suit a tie or group of ties each of which can be worn properly with that particular suit.

Accordingly, it is a primary object of the invention to provide a tie holder device of the character described especially constructed for mounting on the wire hook of a conventional clothes hanger overlying a mans suit or jacket also carried on the hanger so that the tie or ties carried by said holder are readily visible.

An important object of the invention is to provide a tie holder device of the character described which is very simple to manufacture and use and which is very economical.

An ancillary object of the invention is to provide a tie holder device of the character described which can be die-cut or stamped from a continuous web of material passed at high speed through a punch press, for instance.

Another object of the invention is to provide a tie holder device of the character described which is constructed from a flexible plastic material which can be folded intermediate the ends thereof to provide a pair of wings, each capable of carrying such ties thereon.

The foregoing and other objects of the invention will become apparent from the ensuing disclosure in which several embodiments of the invention have been described in detail in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing. It is contemplated that minor variations in the construction, arrangement and proportions of the several parts thereof may occur to the skilled artisan without sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

A conventional type of wire hanger is designated generally by the reference character 10 in FIGS. 1 and 4. Mounted on the hanger 10 in each instance is a suit of clothing consisting of a jacket 14 supported on the laterally extending shoulder run portions 12 of the hanger and a pair of trousers 15 ordinarily supported on the crossbar 16 of the hanger. The laterally extending shoulder portions 12 are twisted together at adjacent ends thereof for closing the hanger structure, and to provide a bail or a hook portion 18 of familiar construction at the end of twisted neck portion 19 both in the plane of the hanger 10.

Referring to FIG. 1, the embodiment of the tie holder device illustrated supported on the hanger 10 is designated generally by the reference character 30. The device 30 is comprised of a sheet of suitable material, such as plastic or paperboard, of sufficient thickness to provide suitable strength for carrying the ties to be supported thereon. The device 30 is of generally triangular configuration provided with an aperture or perforation 32 adjacent the apex 34 of the device. Spaced inwardly of the base 36 of the device a short distance is a pair of

38 and 40 extending generally parallel to said base. Each slot opens to said base by means of a segment 42 so that in effect the slots are generally T-shaped in configuration.

As seen in FIG. 1, each of said slots is capable of supporting a mans tie 44 folded upon itself which can be introduced into a slot from said base 36 through connecting segment 42. Thus, the device 30 can be seen to be supported exterior of the jacket with the neck portion 19 engaged through perforation 32. The ties are readily visible for selection by the wearer. Each

38 and 40 is of sufiicient length to support a tie 44 therein without wrinkling thereof.

Referring to FIG. 2, a modified form of the invention is shown designated generally by the reference character 50. The device 50 likewise is triangular in configuration and has a perforation 52 at the apex 54 thereof. In the medial body portion 56 is an H-shaped slot 58 and opening to each of the sides 60 of the device is a slot 62. The slots 62 enable ties to be introduced for support on the device through the sides 60 of the device and the H-shaped slot merely shows another form of means for supporting a mans tie on the device. In each instance, the slot is of sufficient length for supporting a tie without wrinkling thereof.

Referring to FIG. 3, another embodiment of the invention is identified generally by the reference character 70. The device 70 is similar to the device 30 with the exception of the slots 72 which do not open to the base edge 74 as in the case of device 30.

Referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, the modified embodiment of the invention therein illustrated is designated generally by the reference character 80. The device consists of a generally hourglass shaped sheet of material having an opposite pair of

38 and 40 of device 30. Thus, slots 85 are T-shaped also with the cross-head portion thereof suitable for supporting a tie in folded-over condition.

Referring to FIG. 4, the device 80 is adapted to be folded medially so that the device can be installed on neck 19 of the hook engaged through the aperture 84 and to provide a wing 88 on each side of the hanger. In this fashion, the device 80 is capable of supporting a pair of ties on each side of the coat or four ties in all.

Referring to FIG. 6, another form of the invention is shown designated generally by the reference character 90. The device 90 is of generally rectangular configuration as seen in plan view and has a plurality of cutout members 92 in the medial body portion 94 thereof each of generally truncated triangular configuration. The base 93 of each portion has a plurality of T-shaped slots 91 therein similar to the slots of device 30 or device 80. Each cutout member 92 is joined to body portion 94 by the narrowed upper end or segment 95. There is an aperture 96 adjacent one end 98 of the device which enables said device to be mounted on the hanger 10. The members 92 can be pushed out from the body 94 of the device so as to enable ties to be installed in the slots 91 of each portion. In the embodiment 90, it will be apparent that twelve ties can be hung on this device.

30, 70, 80 and 90 can be stamped out or diecut in continuous process by passing a web of suitable material through a punch press at high speed. In addition, the material selected for the device preferably is flexible sutficiently to enable the device either to be folded as shown in FIG. 4 or curved adjacent the hook portion 19 as seen in 104 in FIG. 1.

It will be appreciated that the tie holder devices embodying the invention are highly suitable as premium items. The devices can be imprinted with attractive indicia or designs and advertising. The devices are capable of being re-used conveniently or shifted to other hangers if desired. Although hanger is formed entirely of wire, the hanger can be of the familiar wooden type wherein only the hook portion is made of wire.

It is believed that the invention has been described in sufficient detail to enable the skilled artisan to practice the same. The invention has been particularly pointed out in the appended claims in language intended to be broadly construed commensurate with the progress in the arts and sciences contributed by the invention.

We claim:

1. A necktie holding device for use with a conventional clothes hanger comprising, a flexible plastic sheet member having a body portion, said body portion'having a pair of medial transverse folds therein providing a pair of wings each having a plurality of spaced apart slots formed therein for supporting a necktie in a folded arrangement engaged through each of said slots and a perforation formed between said folds, said perforation having a diameter sufficient to permit passage of the hook of said hanger for supporting the device on said hanger exterior of a garment also hung thereon such that said necktie is readily visible for selection by the wearer, said sheet member being of material which is sufliciently flexible to permit said Wings to hang in vertical disposition from said hook.

2. A device as described in claim 1 in which each wing has at least a pair of slots therein spaced from the marginal edge of the wing at said end thereof.

3. A device as described in claim 1 in which each wing is of substantially truncated triangular shape.

Claims

1. A NECKTIE HOLDING DEVICE FOR USE WITH A CONVENTIONAL CLOTHES HANGER COMPRISING, A FLEXIBLE PLASTIC SHEET MEMBER HAVING A BODY PORTION, AND BODY PORTION HAVING A PAIR OF MEDIAL TRANSVERSE FOLDS THEREIN PROVIDING A PAIR OF WINGS EACH HAVING A PLURALITY OF SPACED APART SLOTS FORMED THEREIN FOR SUPPORTING A NECKTIE IN A FOLDED ARRANGEMENT ENGAGED THROUGH EACH OF SAID SLOTS AND A PERFORATION FORMED BETWEEN SAID FOLDS, AND PERFORATION HAVING A DIAMETER SUFFICIENT TO PERMIT PASSAGE OF THE HOOK OF SAID HANGER FOR SUPPORTING THE DEVICE ON SAID HANGER EXTERIOR OF A GARMENT ALSO HUNG THEREON SUCH THAT SAID NECKTIE IS READILY VISIBLE FOR SELECTED BY THE WEARER, SAID SHEET MEMBER BEING OF MATERIAL WHICH IS SUFFICIENTLY FLEXIBLE TO PERMIT SAID WINGS TO HANG IN VERTICAL DISPOSITION FROM SAID HOOK.
