Description

LJOHNSON. Gate Support.
No. 3a,5 90.- Patented OCT. 29. 1861.
PATENT Eric-E.
ISAIAH JOHNSON, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
IMPROVED NON-SAGGING GATE-POST.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33,690, dated October 29, 1861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAIAH JOHNSON, of Alliance, in the county of Stark, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Arranging a Non-Sagging Gate-Post or Gate-Support for the Purpose of Sustaining a Gate in a Desired Position; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the drawing, C represents one piece forming a partial base, an incline brace, and cap. The sill A and back end of the cap 0 form the base of the arrangement. The post 13 and braces (Z rest on the sill A and firmly support the front end of the cap C in an elevated position. The brace g prevents the post B from sagging by sustaining the incline brace O and post B in their relative positions. The posts in and n are merely attached to the partial base and incline brace for the support of fence.
A gate may be hung t0 the frame either by hooks or by letting the hindmost post of the gate extend up into the hole 6 in the cap C and rest on book f, which in either case will permit the gate to swing right or left and prevent itfrom tipping by the partial base and incline brace overbalancing the gate.
Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the cap O,brace 9, post B, and sill A, forming a non -sagging gatepost, constructed and opera ting as and forthe purpose set forth.
ISAIAH JOHNSON.
