Description

June 20, 1967 .l. J. HAMELIN ETAL 3,326,400
TWO COMPARTMENT CONTAINER Filed O Ct. 25, 1965 VANAAM/ Irv/@Mors J'- J- HAMELlN Aome ys United States Patent OA Paris, France Filed Oct. 23, 1965, Ser. No. 503,412 Claims. (Cl. 21S-6) This invention relates to a container which makes it possible t-o store separately two solid or liquid products which are to be subsequently mixed together.
Its purpose is to ensure that one product is isolated from the other within a common container. This container, which is preferably made of a plastic material, comprises:
a lbottle 3 of any shape, provided with a threaded neck;
a stopper 1 the central portion of which acts as a reservoir;
a plug 2 which closes the reservoir formed Within the stopper. This plug may be made of rub'ber, plastic, or any other material having at least some resilience, and is a force t within the stopper.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described, purely by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, on which:
FIG. 1 is a partial vertical section through the bottle, stopper and plug, showing the two contained products kept separate; and
FIG. 2 is a partial vertical section showing the plug pulled out and the two contained products mixed together.
The lbottle is filled in the following manner:
The lirst product is placed in the cavity of the stopper 1, which is then closed by inserting the plug 2. The bottle 3 is then lled with the second product, and the stopper 1 positioned above the mouth of the bottle, with the plug down.
The plug is provided with a flange 6 which is slightly larger than the inner diameter of the neck of the bottle, so that it is necessary to force the stopper and plug down the neck of the bottle. This is accomplished by screwing the stopper into the neck.
The container is then ready for storage, 'but when the 3,326,400 Patented June 20, 1967 ICC stopper 1 is unscrewed, the ange 6 on the plug 2 prevents the plug from rising with the stopper, so that after the stopper has been unscrewed for a certain distance the plug will fall out, thus permitting the upper product 4 to fall into the lower product k5. Further and complete unscrewing of the stopper makes the mixture within the bottle available for use.
What we claim is:
1. A container for holding two products separately, said container comprising in combination a bottle having a neck leading to a mouth, a stopper dimensioned to close said mouth, said stopper having an inner portion within said neck and an outer skirt surrounding said neck, said inner portion and said outer skirt being rigidly, integrally united so that movement of said outer skirt will cause simultaneous movement of said inner portion, said stopper being for-med with a cavity which opens toward the interior of said bottle when said stopper closes said mouth, and a plug .having a first portion which is Ia friction t within the opening to said cavity and a second portion having at least one transverse dimension greater than the inner diameter of said neck.
2. A container as claimed in claim 1 in which said outer skirt and neck are provided with mating screw threads so that said stopper may be screwed onto and off said bottle.
3. A container as claimed in claim 1 in which said plug is made of a resilient material.
4. A container as claimed in claim 1 in which the second portion of said plug is positioned below said neck when said stopper andV plug are in place.
5. A container as claimed in claim 1 :holding a rst product within said cavity and a second product within said bottle.
