AUGER-I-IANDLE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 32,890, dated July 23, 1861.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEONARD L. POLLARD, of the city and county of I/Vorcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement for irttaching Angers and other Tools to the Handles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification.

The drawing is a sectional View showing the whole arrangement.

A. is a handle made in the usual form.

B. is the shank of the auger.

(I. is the ratch or dog with a projection fitting into a notch in the shank of auger.

I). is the thumb piece or key which locks the ratch firmly in its place.

E. is a spiral spring, which when the thumb piece or key is pressed in, throws the catch back, and releases the auger, and it also throws the thumb piece out, when the auger is inserted.

F. is the frame or socket.

G. is a pin or rivet holding the catch or dog 0. in its place, and on which said catch or dog turns.

hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The socket or frame F, the catch or dog C. the thumb piece or key D. or their equivalent in combination with the spiral spring E. the handle A. and the pin or rivet G.
