Filed Oct. 21, 1%5, Ser. No. 499,510 1 Claim. (Cl. 108-19) The present invention relates to TV snack tables, and is particularly concerned with snack tables of the type having a rectangular top and a pair of crossed legs at each end.
One of the objects of the invention is the provision of a table of the class described in which the upper part of the U-shaped leg units, is adapted to cam its way in to final position at each side of the table top, below the table top, in such manner that the leg unit is removably held in that position, to support the table top in fixed position.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an assembly which may be carried in one hand with the leg units depending from the vertically located table top, the legs also extending vertically downward from the hand.
Another object is the provision of an improved leg clip for such assemblies, in which the clip has an attaching flame that may be riveted to the depending rim of the table top, and an angle flange extending generally parallel to the bottom of the table top, and a pair of ribs that are adapted to engage just above the scam in the transverse top member of the leg unit, so that it will cam its way in and be held.
Another object is to provide an improved levelator which may be made for round legs or square legs.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description, in which similar characters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the two sheets of drawings;
'FIG. 1 is a perspective of the TV snack table;
FIG. 2 is an end elevation;
FIG. 3 is a side elevation;
FIG. 4 is a bottom plan view;
FIG. 5 is a side elevation, with top in vertical position, for carrying in the hand, from the upper edge and with the legs folded;
FIG. 6 is an end elevation of FIG. 5, taken from the right end of [F-IG. 5;
FIG. 7 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the plane of the line '7--7 of FIG. 5, looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 8 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the plane of the line -8--8 in FIG. 7, looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 9 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the plane of the line 99 of FIG. 7, looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 10 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the table top and the adjacent top portion of a leg, showing in dotted lines, the entrance of said top portion between the bottom of the table and a leg clip, and the full lines show is final position;
FIG. 11 is a fragmentary elevational view of the end of a leg with a levelizer disposed at an angle;
FIG. 12 is a sectional view taken on the plane of the line 1212 of FIG. 11, looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 13 is a side elevation of a levelizer for a round leg without its foot;
FIG. 14 is a bottom plan view of FIG. 13; and
FIG. 15 is a top plan view of a foot as shown in FIG.
12, partially broken away to show the retaining flange.
Referring to FIG. 1, 20 indicates the snack tray in its entirety, and 22 is the tray top, while the legs are indicated at 24, 26. The legs are pivoted midway between their ends at 28, 28, and the top has a depending edge or rim 30 at each side and end, and the depending edge at each end is indicated at 32.
The U-shaped leg unit is shown in FIG. 4, where the parts of a leg are indicated at 34, 3 6, 38, and the narrowed portion 40 at the bend in each leg, is channelled in form for strength and rigidity.
The leg clips are indicated at 42, and each leg clip has an attaching flange 44, which is riveted to the rim of the table, and each clip has another flange 46 at right angles to the attaching flange 44, and which extends substantially parallel to the bottom of the table top. The backwardly turned end of each clip is indicated at 48, and the .carnming surface at '50, on the end of each clip, each of which has two projecting ribs 52, which so reduce the friction that the leg may cam the clip away from the table bottom until the table leg can be inserted between the bottom of the table top and the upper part of the clip and held there.
Each leg is substantially U-shaped and its shorter midportion is indicated at 5'4, and the two longer ends are at 5'6, 56, with the lower side of the table indicated at 58. The legs are pivoted together by a rivet 28, 28, and the legs may be folded as shown in FIG. 5. This figure also shows the table top held in vertical position with the legs folded and depending therefrom, so that the table may be folded and carried by one hand.
The end of each leg carries a levelizer assembly which may be made for round or square legs. Each levelizer assembly has a foot '62, with a foot tflange 64, and 66 indicates a cylindrical socket of the levelizer. This cylindrical part has an inwardly projecting and overhanging rim 68 about a round opening.
72 indicates a socket for the leg and 74 a spherical socket for a sphere 78 which has a neck 76 and a plurality of ribs 80, separated by grooves. The foot portion of the levelizer may be pulled out of the socket portion or replaced and the levelizer constantly has its foot portion adjusted to the level of the floor, due to the limited universal movement of the sphere.
It will thus be observed that I have invented an improved TV snack table, having a rectangular top and a pair of crossed legs at each end, which may be carried in one hand with the leg units depending from the vertically located table top, :and the leg units also extending vertically downward from the hand, making it very easy to carry.
The present table has an improved leg clip for such assemblies, in which the clip has an attaching flange that may be riveted to the depending rim of the table top, and an angle flange extending generally parallel to the bottom of the table top, and a pair of ribs that are adapted to engage just above the seam in the transverse top member of the leg unit, so that it will cam its way in and be held.
The present table is rigid when expanded into fixed position, and it may be readily folded for storage or transportation.
While I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, many changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of all changes within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by US. Letters Patent, is:
A TV snack table assembly, comprising a rectangular table top, having two long sides and two shorter sides,
a said table top having a rim extending about its edge, and depending therefrom, on its long sides and on its shorter sides, a pair of substantially U-shaped leg units, each leg unit having an upper portion adapted to extend along the long sides of said table top, and each leg unit having a pair of depending legs, and said legs being pivoted together midway between the legs ends, at each end of the table, the legs being foldable after disengaging them from the table top to permit storage or shipment, and the legs supporting the top rigidly when attached to the table top, the said table top being provided with a plurality of leg clips, located on each of the long sides of the table adjacent each end, and located to engage the upper portion of the leg unit, each leg clip having a fiat attaching fiange to be secured to the depending rim of the table top, and each leg clip having another angle flange, extending generally parallel to the bottom of the table top, and each leg clip having a pair of ribs adapted to engage just above the edge of the leg unit at the longer side of the table, whereby the leg unit on either side may be cammed in between the angular flange and the bottom of the table top, and
be held in engagement with the table top, the said legs being rectangular, and having a seam on one side, and the leg being engaged by the seams on the leg clips, and with the attaching flange, to hold the legs in fixed position, to support the table top in erect position.
