No. 309,265 3 Claims. (til. 297-i91) This invention relates to improvements in folding seats which are adapted to be employed for supporting articles of clothing and for storing personal items.
An object of the present invention is to provide a clothes stand fitted with a seat resting on legs linked to each other as well as to the seat and to the rear standards, the rear side of the seat being fixed between said standards so as to be easily dismountable thereof.
Referring to the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the unit ready for use;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing the unit in folded position;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary, perspective view showing the seat with its lid lifted;
PEG. 4 is a side view of the unit on a reduced scale with a jacket shown supported thereon; and
FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 55 of FIG. 1 showing the connections between certain members of the unit.
As shown in the drawings, the back of the clothes stand includes a pair of vertically disposed, spaced apart standards 1 and 2. The upper ends of said standards are connected together by a jacket hanger which is fixedly secured to the standards by suitable means (not shown). The standards l and Z are also braced and spaced apart by upper and lower bars 3a and 312, respectively. A trouser hanger 4 and tray 4' are mounted on the top of the jacket hanger 3. The rear legs 6 of the folding seat are disposed against the outer surface of the standards l and 2 and the legs 6 are pivoted adjacent the lower ends thereof to the bottom ends of said standards by means of pivots 5. The front legs 8 of the seat are inclined rearwardly and are aligned with the respective forwardly inclined rear leg 6 and the upper ends of the front legs abut against the rear legs 6 substantially midway between the opposite ends of the rear legs when the chair is in the unfolded position, as shown in FIGS. 1, 4 and 5. Two lever-shaped links 7 are rigidly secured at one end thereof to the upper end of the respective front leg 8. The other end of the links '7' are hinged to the corresponding rear leg 6 by means of the pivots 7. The front legs 8 are connected to each other by means of a cross-piece 9.
A shallow box it is fastened by the pivots 10a to the upper ends of legs 6, and is adapted to contain items, such as brushes and the like. A hinged lid acting as seat 11 is pivotally secured at the rear edge thereof to the back edge of the box 19 by three hinges 18. A short extension 12, which is rigid with the rear edge of the box It extends outwardly therefrom midway between the opposite side edges thereof. The outer free end of the extension 12 is adapted to abut against a horizontal cross-piece 17 fixed between the standards 1 and 2 when the seat is in the unfolded or open position. A readily the rear edge of said lid and said box being spaced forremovable screw 13, which passes through a suitable opening formed in the cross-piece 17 is employed to connect the extension 12 to the cross-piece 17 when the unit is to be used.
Owing to the way the legs are interlinked and pivoted on the standards and due to the other above described linkages, the clothes standard may easily be folded according to FIG. 2, after removing screw 13 to disconnect the extension 12 from the cross-piece 17.
I claim:
1. A clothes stand with a folding seat, comprising: a pair of forwardly inclined rear legs; a vertical standard pivotally connected at the lower end thereof to each of said rear legs; apparel support means carried by the upper end of said standard; a pair of rearwardly inclined front legs pivotally connected at the upper ends thereof to the respective rear leg; a box disposed between said rear legs and pivotally connected to said rear legs adjacent the upper ends thereof; a lid hinged to said box providing a seat; an extension rigid with said box extending outward-' ly from the back edge of said box; a cross-piece fixed between said standards for cooperation with said extension when said clothes stand is unfolded; and means for detachably connecting said extension to said cross-piece,

2. A clothes stand with a folding seat, comprising: a pair of forwardly inclined rear legs; a vertical standard pivotally connected at the lower end thereof to each of said rear legs; apparel support means carried by the upper end of said standard; a pair of rearwardly inclined front legs pivotally connected at the upper ends thereof to the respective rear leg intermediate the opposite ends thereof; a shallow box disposed between said rear legs and pivotally connected to said rear legs adjacent the upper ends thereof; a lid hinged to said box providing a seat; and extension rigid with said box extending outwardly from the back edge of said box and substantially midway between the side edges thereof; a cross-piece fixed between said standards for cooperation with said extension; and means for connecting said extension to said cross-piece to maintain said clothes stand in an unfolded position, the rear edge of said lid and said box being spaced forwardly from the front surface of said standard whereby apparel depending from said apparel support means is adapted to be received in the space between said standard and cross member and the rear edge of said lid and box.
3. A clothes stand with a folding seat, comprising: a pair of forwardly inclined rear legs; a vertical standard pivotally connected at the lower end thereof to each of said rear legs; apparel support means carried by the upper end of said standard; a pair of rearwardly inclined front legs; means connecting the upper end of said front legs to the respective rear leg for limited pivotal movement relative thereto; a box disposed between said rear legs and pivotally connected to said rear legs adjacent the upper ends thereof, a lid hinged to said box providing a seat; an extension rigid with said box extending outwardly from the back edge of said box; a cross-piece fixed between said standards for cooperation with said extension; and means for detachably connecting said extension to said cross-piece, said front legs being pivoted to the limit of movement in one direction and extending substantially normal to the respective rear leg, when said clothes stand is in the unfolded position, the rear edge of said lid and said box being spaced forwardly from the front surface of said standard whereby apparel depending from said apparel support means is adapted to be received in the space between said standard and cross member and the rear edge of said lid and box.

A CLOTHES STAND WITH A FOLDING SEAT, COMPRISING: A PAIR OF FORWARDLY INCLINED REAR LEGS; A VERTICAL STANDARD PIVOTALLY CONNECTED AT THE LOWR END THEREOF TO EACH OF SAID REAR LEGS; APPAREL SUPPORT MEANS CARRIED BY THE UPPER END OF SAID STANDARD; A PAIR OF REARWARDLY INCLINED FRONT LEGS PIVOTALLY CONNECTED AT THE UPPER ENDS THEREOF TO THE RESPECTIVE REAR LEG; A BOX DISPOSED BETWEEN SAID REAR LEGS AND PIVOTALLY CONNECTED TO SAID REAR LEGS ADJACENT THE UPPER ENDS THEREOF; A LID HINGED TO SAID BOX PROVIDING A SEAT; AN EXTENSION RIGID WITH SAID BIOX EXTENDING OUTWARDLY FROM THE BACK EDGE OF SAID BOX; A CROSS-PIECE FIXED BETWEEN SAID STANDARDS FOR COOPERATION WITH SAID EXTENSION WHEN SAID CLOTHES STAND IS UNFOLDED; AND MEANS FOR DETACHABLY CONNECTING SAID EXTENSION TO SAID CROSS-PIECE, THE REAR EDGE OF SAID LID AND SAID BOX BEING SPACED FOR-
