Bedding articles are known, wherein the member protecting the user against cold is introduced inside a closed bag formed by an upper cover of ornamental fabric and the upper surface of an upper sheet. Such articles have the drawback that washing thereof is a delicate matter because the ornamental fabric, generally of a printed type, which forms the upper section of the bag, hinders the washing, since the washing of the upper and lower sheets is much easier when said sheets are assembled together and form what is generally called a sleeping bag.

It is an object of the invention to provide improved bedding articles which are flat and unfolded and which are easily disassembled for laundering.

The bedding article according to my invention is designed so as to promote the washing of the components thereof which are necessary to be cleaned more often, i.e., the actual sheets which come in contact with the user. To this end, to a sleeping bag formed by two sheets assembled together, there is detachably secured by means of a slide fastener, along at least two sides of the bag and in proximity with both longitudinal edges, a quilted member adapted to provide warmth.

Furthermore, if said quilted member is not suificiently Warm for the user, a supplementary protecting element such as a blanket or a quilt may be inserted into an open pocket formed between the quilted member and the upper sheet of the sleeping bag.

The accompanying diagrammatic drawing illustrates, by way of example, a preferred embodiment of my invention. In said drawing:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my novel bedding article seen from the side through which the user enters.

FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1, wherein the slide fasteners are shown partly open with the associated upper section of the article raised.

lower sheets

2 and 3 of the sleeping bag are assembled in the usual manner at their sides, as shown by the seam (FIG. 1), this being performed entirely or partly along three sides 4, 5 and 6. Said assembly is closed along at least one of the larger sides 4 or 5 of the sheet in proximity with the opening through which the user enters the bag, by a slide fastener 8, 8' extending in alignment with the seam 1.

In order to secure the quilted member 7 which provides warmth for the user one of the elements 9 of a further slide fastener is formed along at least one of the longer sides of the sleeping bag. The member 7 which serves for protecting the user against cold is also provided with an element 9' cooperating with the corresponding element 9.

The interengagement between the two elements 9 and 9' of the slide fastener thus allows securing the protecting member 7 over the

2 and 3 of the sleeping bag, without disturbing the partial closing and opening of the upper end of the bag through operation of the slide fastener elements 8 and 8'.

In order to prevent the presence of the quilted member 7 from reducing the useful breadth of the bag, said mem- "ice ber should be provided preferably with a breadth which is slightly larger than that of the

Although this is not essential, a third slide fastener may be provided at 1 for securing the member 7 along the smaller side of the sleeping bag opposite to that through which the user enters the said bag. In order to protect the user against cold which might enter the bag through the sides of the latter, an isothermic strip 12 is secured along the edge 13 of the lower sheet, so as to serve the same function as a blanket folded underneath the matteress of a conventional bed. Said isothermic strip is shown in FIG. 2 only along one of the sides of the bag, but it is also provided along the other side of the bag. An isothermic strip may also be fitted along the shorter side of the bag facing the wearers feet at the bottom of the sleeping bag.

My improved bedding article has for its advantage that it is more readily washable, since it is possible to separate and speedily and easily remove the quilted member from the sheet assembly. Thus, the quilted member may form an ornamental article of a higher grade than if it were necessary to subject it to the frequent and multiple washings required by the sheets.

In order that the bedding article may be still warmer, it is possible to insert a blanket or a quilt 14 inside the pocket 15 formed between the upper sheet 2 and the quilted member 7 (FIG. 3).

Obviously, my invention is by no means limited to the sole embodiment which has just been described and it covers all the modifications thereof falling within the scope of the accompanying claims and, in particular, it is possible to modify the number of slide fasteners distributed along two or three sides of the finished article and also the location, with reference to the edge of the article, of each slide fastener securing to the sheet assembly the quilted member protecting the user against cold.

What I claim is:

1. A flat bedding article comprising a bottom sheet, a top sheet, means marginally connecting said sheets, at least in part detachably, to provide a flat sheet assembly having an opening providing entry into the article while the latter remains flat, a quilted member having a breadth exceeding that of the sheets, slide fasteners removably securing the quilted member along lateral edges thereof to the sheet assembly such that the quilted member is freely removable from the sheet assembly while the latter is in fiat condition, said quilted member, by virtue of the breadth thereof, defining a pocket with the sheet assembly which pocket is adapted for accommodating a blanket therewithin, and isothermic strips marginally supported on one of said sheets and contained between the sheets with the latter assembled.

A flat bedding article comprising a bottom and top sheet having longitudinal and transverse edges, said sheets being connected together along three of said edges to define a flat sheet assembly having an opening providing entry into the bedding article while the latter remains flat, slide fastener means at least in part detachably connecting said sheets together along said edges, a quilted member having a transverse extent exceeding that of the sheets, slide fasteners removably securing the quilted member along lateral edges thereof to the sheet assembly such that the quilted member is freely removable from the sheet assembly while the latter is in flat condition, said quilted member by virtue of the transverse extent thereof, defining a pocket with the sheet assembly which is adapted for accommodating a blanket therewithin, and isothermic strips extending on one of the sheets along the longitudinal edges thereof and contained within the flat sheet assembly.

3. A bedding article as claimed in claim 2 wherein said slide fastener means comprises slide fastener elements 4. Claims

1. A FLAT BEDDING ARTICLE COMPRISING A BOTTOM SHEET, A TOP SHEET, MEANS MARGINALLY CONNECTING SAID SHEETS, AT LEAST IN PART DETACHABLY,TO PROVIDE A FLAT SHEET ASSEMBLY HAVING AN OPENING PROVIDING ENTRY INTO THE ARTICLE WHILE THE LATTER REMAINS FLAT, A QUILTED MEMBER HAVING A BREADTH EXCEEDING THAT OF THE SHEETS, SLIDE FASTENERS REMOVABLY SECURING THE QUILTED MEMBER ALONG LATERAL EDGES THEREOF TO THE SHEET ASSEMBLY SUCH THAT THE QUILTED MEMBER IS FREELY REMOVABLE FROM THE SHEET ASSEMBLY WHILE THE LATTER IS IN FLAT CONDITION, SAID QUILTED MEMBER, BY VIRTUE OF THE BREADTH THEREOF, DEFINING A POCKET WITH THE SHEET ASSEMBLY WHICH POCKET IS ADAPTED FOR ACCOMMODATING A BLANKET THEREWITHIN, AND ISOTHERMIC STRIPS MARGINALLY SUPPORTED ON ONE OF SAID SHEETS AND CONTAINED BETWEEN THE SHEETS WITH THE LATTER ASSEMBLED.
