INVENTOR. 2/;w/ hiquxe ATZ'OeNEY United States Patent 3,144,677 SHIELDS Frank J. Hauke, 3348 N. 98th St, Milwaukee 22, Wis. Filed Oct. 8, 1962, Ser. No. 228,820 1 Claim. (Cl. 16-1) This invention relates to improvements in shields and more particularly to a novel shield of the type for protecting the surface of a cabinet door or drawer contiguous to the handle thereof.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will prevent marring or scratching of a door surface or the like immediately adjacent to the door handle by the finger nails of a person opening or closing the door.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. lis a view in perspective of a shield embodying the invention disposed between a cabinet door handle and the cabinet door.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of one form of the invention.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 33 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a plan view of a modified form of the invention.
FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken of line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral refers to the device generally, comprising a plate member as shown in FIG. 2, of an ovate-triangular conformation and having pluralities of aligned apertures.
A central aperture at 11 is appropriate When the shield is placed under a drawer pull or the like having but a single fastening means. and 13 Will come into use when a handle member 14 of the type shown in FIG. 1 is employed. The base terminals The pluralities of apertures 12 3 "ice 15 and 16 of the handle member 14 will ordinarily cover all of the apertures 12 and 13 when in position, but only one pair of the apertures will be engaged by the threaded means securing the handle member. The shield 10 may be formed of any appropriate material such as colored or clear plastic.
In FIGS. 4 and 5 a modification of the invention is illustrated, in which a plate 20 has a plurality of apertures 21 and 22 adjacent each end 23 and 24 thereof, and a central aperture at 25, but the plate is molded in such a manner that the apertures do not pass entirely through the plate 20 which has an unbroken surface on one face 26 thereof. In this way only the apertures used may be punched when the fastening means are introduced.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In combination with a cabinet door handle, a clear material ovate-triangular shield plate placed between the handle and the cabinet door, said shield having a single aperture centrally disposed to accommodate a single knob arrangement and two sets of aligned apertures, each set of apertures adjacent an end of said shield and in parallel with the longitudinal axis of the shield to accommodate different sizes of conventional arcuate pull handles.
