Description

H. D. ROGERS.
Plow.
Patented Feb. 12, 1861.
inventor,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY D. ROGERS, OF GRAFTON, OHIO.
lM PROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 31,407, dated February 12, 1861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY D. ROGERS, of Grafton, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Mode ot'Securing Wings to Plow-Points; and'I do hereby declare that the'following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in a combination of devices for securing Wings to plow-points, the same beingfully described and claimed hereinafter in the accompanying papers. 7
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 shows the wing detached from the plow. Fig. 2 is a view of the plow, showing the rabbets and slots where the wingis secured. Fig. 3 is a horizontal view of the wing, showing the countersunk headed studs. Fig. 4 is a view of an inverted plow with the removable wing attached.
In the forward part of all plows where my removable wing is used I make a rabbet, marked A, Fig. 2. WVithin the limits of said rabbet I make beveled slots. Said slots are marked A, Fig. 2. As many of said slots maybe made as the nature of the case seems to require. The
lower edges of said slots may be beveled off to receive the countersink which is formed on the head of the studs, as shown at B B B, Figs. 3 and 4E. The extended point C shown in Fig. l is placed between the cap and sole of the shoe D, as shown at 0, Figs. 2 and 4.
By this combination of devices it will be seen that the wing is secured 'to the plow by means of the studs B B B, which are kept back in slots A A A by the pressure the wing receives from the removable point against the extended portion of the wing marked 0, Fig. 4, the back pressure of the shoe and point being given by the set-screw E, so that by turning back the set-screwat the back of the plow the wing and point may be removed without difliculty.
Having thus described my improvement in plows, what I claim as new, and what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The rabbeted portion A, bevel-edged slots A, countersunk studs B B B,and the extended portion of the wing marked 0, the whole being combined with the shoe'and point D,for the purpose herein described and set forth.
HENRY D. ROGERS.
