It is an object of the present invention to provide a convenient device for cleaning bath tubs t ithout stooping, reaching, or the like.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a bath tub cleaner device of the above type which can be readily used by any person, is easy to clean and store when not in use, and which can be easily manipulated around all types of bath tub shapes.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a lazy bath tub cleaner bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture, and. eflicient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a cleaning implement made in accordance with the present invention;

FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary exploded perspective view of certain parts of the present invention; and

FIGURE 3 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of the device made in accordance with the present invention in actual use.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a cleaning implement made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a main shaft 12 having an arcuate handle 14 at one end and a terminal portion 16 at the opposite end which is frictionally received within the longitudinal bore of a sleeve coupling member 18.

The arcuate handle is formed as a continuation of the main shaft, which is substantially sinusoidal in shape.

The coupling member 18 also frictionally receives a mounting pin 20 at the opposite end from the terminal 16 of the main shaft, which pin 20 is slidably received within an opening 22 that eXtends diagonally partly through a substantially prismatic cleaning element 24. Said pin may be frictionally held within the cleaning element by any conventional adhesive or other similar means.

The cleaning element 24 is preferably constructed from sponge rubber having beveled edges which will readily reach into the crevices and corners of conventional bath tub fixtures.

In actual use, the parts are assembled in the manner "ice shown in the drawing, so that the sponge rubber cleaning element 24 may be conveniently removed and cleaned and stored after each use. When properly assembled, the substantially sinusoidal configuration of the main shaft 12 facilitates the movement and manipulation of the device around the interior of a bath tub, with due consideration for the inwardly projecting fixtures and nozzles of conventional bath tubs. Because of the arcuate configuration of the main shaft 12, it is thus possible to reach all of the corners of the bath tub without interference from the bath tub fixtures, and without having to reach or stretch over the side of the bath tub.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention, as defined by the appended claim.

What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:

A cleaning implement comprising, in combination, a main shaft, said main shaft comprising a substantially rigid, self-supporting rod of substantially sinusoidal configuration throughout the entire length thereof for accommodating inwardly-projecting fixtures of conventional bath tubs, one end of said main shaft forming an arcuate handle portion extending substantially normal to the general longitudinal axis of the main shaft, a cleaning element, said cleaning element comprising a substantially prismatic block of sponge material, said prismatic block having doubled downwardly facing edges extending substantially normal to the general longitudinal axis of said main shaft, said cleaning element having a relatively greater width transversely and a relatively narrower width forwardly, for purposes of cleaning a wide section with each forwardly-extending movement of said cleaning implement, and coupling means detachably securing said element to the opposite end of said main shaft, said coupling means comprising a sleeve having a longitudinal bore extending longitudinally therethrough, one end of said sleeve frictionally receiving the opposite end of said main shaft, and the opposite end of said sleeve frictionally receiving a mounting pin, said mounting pin at its free end secured to and diagonally-extending within said prismatic element.
