An important object of this invention is to provide a new and improved gaine device for playing a game which is educational as well as entertaining.

A further object of this invention is to provide a new and improved game device wherein categories are ernployed in a selected arrangement on said game device so that two r more players can alternately answer questions relating to the categories in an attempt to align a series of cards for covering selected areas of said game device.

Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved game device wherein a series of openings in a frame are provided in Vertical and horizontal rows with a place for a card to be positioned in accordance with the sequenceof play by the players.

The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specication and by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, wherein an example of the invention is shown, and wherein:

in the drawings, the letter F designates generally the frame of the game device. The frame is so constructed, as will be later explained in detail, that it has a plurality of openings X located in a predetermined arrangement to be used in conjunction with a movable strip S having certain legends or indicia thereon. Cards C are positioned on the face of the frame F in a selected arrangement with the openings X in the playing of the game, the method of playing same which will be disclosed later. Cards C are grouped so that one player or team is the winner of the gaine. As more particularly explained hereinafter the strip S is movable so that the indicia placed thereon may be moved so as to vary the game.

Considering the invention in detail, the frame F is comprised of upper and lower horizontal members 1t) which are identical (lower one not shown), to which are connected two substantially vertical members 12 by any suitable means such as nails or adhesive. Facing members 1d and 17 are suitably attached by nails, adhesive or the like to horizontal members 10 and vertical members 12, respectively, and are adjacent to each other. In order to stabilize the frame F to prevent tipping thereof, any suitable means can be provided, but in the preferred form of the invention as illustrated, one or more footing members 15 are attached to the lower and rear portion of the frame -F at the vertical members 12.

A pair of strips 2t? are positioned between horizontal members 16 substantially parallel to said horizontal members and to each other and are attached to vertical members 17 by suitable means. Additional vstrips 21 are positioned substantiallyfvertically between vertical members 17 and substantially parallel thereto and to each other. The strips Ztl and 21 divide the area defined by the frame members 10 and 12 into a plurality of sections 25. A sheet 26 is positioned in each `of such sections 25 to completely lill same Vexcept for the openings X, previously referred to, which are left at the upper end of each section 25 to permit viewing of the strip S therethrough. As seen in FIGS. l and 3, attachment means A are shown for attaching the cards -C to the sheets 26. In the preferred form of the invention, the means A includes a fastener having legs 31 and 34, and head 32. The legs 31 and 34 of each attachment means A are extended apart so that the upper leg 31 projects upwardly at an angle so as to Vextend through an opening in the particular card C positioned thereon. The attachment means A for attaching the cards C could be hooks, screws, adhesive, magnets .or metal strips to which magnetized pieces of metalcould .-be attached; or any other suitable attachment means or substance lcapable of holding the cards C in the desired positions.

The movable strip S is mounted on the frame F so that the indicia 35 which is printed, stamped or is otherwise 4formed thereon is visible through the openings X of the sections 25. The strip S is mounted on rollers 37 having pins 39 on each end thereof, or any other suitable means for attaching the rollers to the frame F. The pins 39 are positioned in slots 2 formed at the upper and the lower .ends of the vertical members 12 for permitting rotation of the rollers 37 relative to the frame F. One of the pins 39 on the upper roller 37 is provided with an extension 4t) which projects through an opening 42a in the adjacent Vertical member 12 to serve as a handle for rota*- ing the. upper roller 37. Preferably, the strip S is taut enough so that upon the rotation of the upper roller 37, the strip S is rotated causing the lower roller 37 to also rotate for a purpose to be hereinafter described. It should be understood that the strip S can be moved by other means than that described above; for example, the eX- tension di) could be a knob, dial or other similar device. Also, the lower roller 37 could be rotated instead of the means to rotate the strip S.

The indicia or legends 35 which appear on the strip S vmay take numerous forms, and they may be arrangecl i numerous patterns, but in the usual instance, the indicia or legends 35 are arrangedy to conform with the number Vof the openings X and the positioning of the openings X in the frame F. In that manner, the legends or indicia 35 appear exposed through the openings X when the strip S is properly positioned. As shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings, there are the same number of indicia or legends 35 as there are openings X shown in FIG. 1 of the drawings. ln such case, it will be evident that the legends or indicia 35 would be aligned for viewing through the openings X. Additional legends or indicia 35 may be placed upon the strip S, and in the preferred form of the invention, there would be several groups of the legends or indicia so that upon the turning of the strip S, with the extension 40 or any other suitable handle means, the particularlegends or indicia 35 which appear opposite any particular one of the openings X could be changed if desired. For example, additional legends or indicia 35a shown in dotted lines in FIG. 2 could be included on the strip S so that upon a partial movement or rotation of the strip S, the legends or indiciaA 35 could -be moved laway from the openings X and the legends or indicia 35a if desired, but in the usual case, a cover sheet or board 44 (FIGS. 3 and 4) would be used to give the device a more nished appearance and to protect the strip S from damage during use.

In the use of the game device of this invention, there would normally be two groups of the cards C. One group of the cards C would have a designation such as X thereon as shown in FIG. l and the other group of the cards C would have the designation O thereon as also shown in FIG. 1. If desired, the two groups of cards can be distinguished by any other suitable identification such as by being of different colors or the like. In any event, one group of the cards C is given to one player or team and the other group of the cards is given to another player or team.

The strip S is rotated or moved if necessary to position the legends or indicia 35 adjacent to the openings X so that such legends or indicia 35 may be viewed from the frontV of the frame F. Assuming the game is a Bible game, the legends or indicia 35 would be divided into Bible categories and for purposes of illustration, it will be assumed that the top three legends or indicia 35 shown in FiG. 2 reading from left to right would be New Testament History, Old Testament History, and Bible Characters. The middle or second row of legends or indicia 35 as seen in FIG. 2, reading from left to right would be Spelling Whos Speaking, and Quotations. The third or lower line of the legends or indicia 35, reading from right to left, would include Geography, Miscellaneous and Special Occasions. The alternate legends or indicia '35a could include the same categories i as enumerated above, but they could be arranged in a diierent order and on dilferent lines so that by the movelnient of the strip S, a different sequence of the categories n The game is started by clearing the trarne of all or.

the cards C. The legends 35 are positioned adjacent to the openings X. Then the iirst person or team to play selects a particular category which appears in a particular one of the sections 25 through the opening X therewith. With each category there will be a number of questions which will be drawn at random after the selection of the category is made by the person or team playing. It the question selected is answered correctly by the lfirst player or team, then that player or team places one of its cards C on the frame F by using the attachment means A.

The next player or team selects a category in one of the other sections 25 and then a question for that particular category is given to the player or team. lf that player or team answers the question correctly, the card C in his particular group can be placed on the board i to cover the section 25 for the category which he had chosen.

The game continues in the same manner with the players taking alternate turns and selecting any of the categories where the cards C have not already been placed. The objective of the game is for one of the players or teams to get the cards C in alignment or in a row before the other player or team gets hisI cards in alignment or in ka row. Therefore, in the. normal manner of playing the game, the rst player to get his cards lined np vertically, horizontally or diagonally would be the winner.

In order to vary the game, the strip S may be turned between each play or between each series of plays by the two players or teams.

The foregoing disclosure and description of the invention is illustrative and explanatory thereof and various changes in the size, shape and materials, as well as in the details of the illustrated construction, may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. A game device, comprising a frame having a plurality of openings formed in a predetermined arrangement, said frame having at least three vertical rows of openings with at least three openings in each of said rows, a movable strip mounted with said frame member having indicia thereon for alignment with said openings, said indicia being arranged on said movable strip whereby one of said indicia may be simultaneously aligned with each one of said openings, at least two groups of cards for positioning on said frame, and means on said frame member for receiving a card adjacent each of said openings for the purpose of aligning a series of said cards in one of the groups either horizontally, vertically or diagvonally for scoring in a game played therewith, said strip having alternate indicia in addition to the indicia which is aligned with said openings so that said alternate indicia may be aligned with said openings `upon a movement of said strip relative to said frame.

2. The structure set forth in claim l, wherein said movable strip is an endless strip which is adapted to be rotated to change the position of the indicia relative to said openings.

3. A game device, comprising a frame which is divided into a plurality of sections on the face thereof, said sections being arranged in at least three vertical rows with each of said rows having at least three ot said sections therein, each of said sections having an opening therethrough, a movable strip having indicia thereon and mounted behind said sections so that said indicia is visible from the front of the frame through said openings, said indicia being arranged on said movable strip whereby Vone of said indicia may be'simultaneously aligned with each one of said openings, at least two groups of cards for positioning on said frame each of said cards being smaller than each of said sections, and an attachment means on each of said sections for receiving one of said cards in one of said groups, whereby the winner of the game is determined by the alignment of a series of said cards in one of said groups either horizontally, vertically Yor diagonally.

4. A game device, comprising a frame which is divided into a plurality of sections on the face thereof, said sections being arranged in at least three vertical rows with each of said rows having at least three of said sections therein, each of said sections having an opening therethrough, an endless strip having an initial grouping of indicia thereon arranged in a pattern to correspond with the arrangement of said openings, said indicia being arranged on said movable strip whereby one of said indicia may be simultaneously aligned with each one of said openings, said strip also having alternate indicia thereon, an upper roller and a lower roller mounted on said Vframe and having said endless strip positioned thereon,

means for rotating one of said rollers for turning said endless strip therewith to move said alternate indicia on said strip into alignment with said openings to vary the play of the game, a plurality of cards adapted to be posi- `tioned on said sections of said frame to indicate that a player has answered a question in the category designated by the indicia each of said cards being smaller than each of said sections, and means for releasably holding one of said cards in each of said sections of said trame for aligning a series of said cards either horizontally, vertically or diagonally to score in the game.
